Diego Brandao: Nine-month suspension from NAC
FeatherweightOther
May 25, 2016
Brandao was suspended nine months and fined 30 percent of his purse by the Nevada Athletic Commission due to a positive marijuana test, Shaheen Al-Shatti of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Brandao was released by the UFC in mid-April amidst a slew of felony charges, and his fortunes haven't exactly gotten any better since then. Even if another promotion takes a risk on the troubled featherweight, they won't be able to utilize him until the suspension is up. On the bright side for Brandao, marijuana isn't a performance enhancer, so he won't be subject to a two-year ban from USADA for PED use. If the 28-year-old wants to return to professional fighting at any point, he will certainly have a long road ahead of him.

Diego Brandao: Released by the UFC

April 28, 2016
Brandao has been released by the UFC following a felony arrest, Marc Raimondi of MMAfighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Brandao was arrested in Albuquerque on four felony aggravated battery charges on April 15. The Brazilian fighter was also facing a suspension from the Nevada Athletic Commission following a positive marijuana test before UFC 195. With the accumulation of suspensions and criminal charges, it is likely that the UFC figured it would be better to do without someone of Brandao's reputation. For now, it is unclear if Brandao will ever be reinstated.

Brandao lost to Brian Ortega via submission (triangle choke) at 1:37 of Round 3 at UFC 195 on Saturday at Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Brandao appeared to be up 20-18, but all it took was one exchange on the ground and DB's night came to an end. Brandao was doing more damage on the feet than Ortega, but he wasn't able to land anything that really hurt Ortega and we all know that he never really had a prayer on the ground against Ortega's submission skills. It's a shame for Brandao because he was fighting a really good fight before the finish. Brandao is 2-3 in his last five fights.

Brandao (+165) is the underdog for his featherweight fight against Brian Ortega that will take place on Saturday at UFC 195 in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Brandao demolished Katsunori Kikuno in 28 seconds in his last bout in late Steptember. The 28-year-old Brazilian will have to try to match the athletic ability of the younger Ortega. DB's best chance of winning on Saturday will involve his racking up a ton of takedowns.
