Elias Theodorou
The Spartan
Set to fight in home country
MiddleweightUFC
February 20, 2019
Theodorou has been added to UCF Ottawa on May 4 against Derek Brunson in the middleweight division, Aaron Bronsteter of TSN.ca reports.
ANALYSIS
It'll be a high-profile fight between the two, as each are currently in the top 15 of middleweight rankings with Brunson at eighth and Theodorou at 14th. Theodorou comes in as the hotter of the two, however, as he's won three straight and five of his last six while Brunson has a 2-4 record over his last six. Theodorou, who originally hails from Toronto, has an 8-2 overall with his most recent outing ending in a win over Eryk Ander via split decision.

Winning streak at three after decisioning Eryk Anders
MiddleweightUFC
December 8, 2018
Theodorou defeated Eryk Anders via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28) at UFC 231 on Saturday in Toronto.
ANALYSIS
Theodorou is not the most gifted athlete on the UFC roster, but he plays to his strengths well. He limited Anders' opportunities to do offensive damage in Rounds 1 and 3 and his chin held up in Round 2. Elias has above-average cardio and a high fight IQ. He does a nice job of tailoring his game plan to each specific opponent he faces. Theodorou's name is bigger than his game at this point, but he can still pull an upset from time to time as he did on Saturday. He has now won three fights in a row.
Draws Eryk Anders at UFC 231
MiddleweightUFC
October 1, 2018
Theodorou will fight Eryk Anders in a middleweight bout at UFC 231 on December 8.
ANALYSIS
Thedorou was scheduled to fight Antonio Carlos Junior at UFC 231, but found himself in need of a new opponent after Carlos Junior was forced to pull out of the fight due to injury. Theodorou is coming into this fight on a two-fight winning streak. His new opponent, Eryk Anders, will be fighting for the third time in four months, and is coming into this fight off a tough loss to Thiago Santos.
Needs new opponent for UFC 231
MiddleweightUFC
September 14, 2018
Theodorou's fight with Antonio Carlos Junior at UFC 231 on Dec. 8 has been canceled because Carlos Junior's undisclosed injury requires surgery, Danny Segura of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
A replacement hasn't been announced for Theodorou, but with nearly three months to go before the intended fight, it seems like the UFC has plenty of time to find another willing party. This is actually the second time Carlos Junior has canceled the fight after the two were originally lined up to face off at UFC Sao Paulo on Sept. 22. Carlos Junior's same undisclosed injury was the reason for that cancellation as well.
Fight rescheduled for December
MiddleweightUFC
August 29, 2018
Theodorou will fight Antonio Carlos Junior at UFC 231 on Dec. 8, Guilherme Cruz of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The two were originally expected to battle at UFC Sao Paulo on Sept. 22, but an undisclosed injury forced Junior to pull out of the matchup. Instead of receiving a new opponent, Theodorou has agreed to reschedule that previous fight and the two will now face off in December. The expectation is that Theodorou will head into the bout as a betting underdog, as Junior has won five straight and currently owns a 10-2 record. Theodorou could also look to avoid the ground game of Junior, as four of those aforementioned fights by Junior have been finished by submissions. On the other hand, Theodorou has just two submissions in 15 career wins.
Needs new opponent in Sao Paulo
MiddleweightUFC
August 28, 2018
Theodorou will no longer fight Antonio Carlos Junio at UFC Sao Paulo on Sept. 22, as Carlos Junior has withdrawn due to an undisclosed injury, Guilherme Cruz of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
This could turn out to be a blessing in disguise for Theodorou, who would have been a betting underdog in enemy territory against a Brazil native. Carlos Junior, or better known as "Shoeface," is an American Top Team product that had been riding a five-fight winning streak in the UFC. It's currently unclear if the UFC will seek a replacement opponent that keeps Theodorou on the Sao Paulo card, or if they have other plans for "The Spartan." At UFC Lincoln on Saturday, Eryk Anders called out Theodorou following his victory over Tim Williams, but it's unclear if the UFC plans for those discussions to materialize in the near future.
