Drops decision against Kyoji Horiguchi
FlyweightOther
November 19, 2016
Bagautinov lost to Kyoji Horiguchi via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
ANALYSIS
Early in the fight, Bagautinov controlled the bout with his wrestling. He landed multiple takedowns and did solid work from the top. In the second round, Horiguchi took control with his footwork and began landing his own takedowns. That trend continued in the third round. Both of these fighters have challenged Demetrious Johnson for the belt, so this fight has likely eliminated Bagautinov from title contention for the near future.

Ali Bagautinov: Earns easy unanimous decision win over Geane Herrera in Ottawa
FlyweightOther
June 18, 2016
Bagautinov defeated Geane Herrera via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Ottawa.
ANALYSIS
In desperate need of a victory, Bagautinov put forth his best performance since joining the UFC. He battered Herrera on the feet with ease, he was able to land five of eight takedown attempts and he racked up more than eight full minutes worth of control time. It was a dominant effort in all areas. We have seen on multiple occasions that the Russian doesn't have the necessary skills to compete against the best flyweights in the world (there's no shame in that), but he is easily a top-ten 125-pounder. Bagautinov is now 4-2 in the UFC.

Bagautinov (-280) is favored over Geane Herrera for their flyweight fight which will take place at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Ottawa.
ANALYSIS
Sandwiched around a year-long suspension for PED’s, Bagautinov is coming off back-to-back losses against UFC Flyweight Champion Demtrious Johnson and perennial top contender Joseph Benavidez. The champ and Joe B are the two best 125-pounders in the world, so it’s not a shock that Bagautinov lost to both. The Russian has a lot of power and better submission skills than he gets credit for, but Herrera is no pushover. Bagautinov was rushed into his title fight against Johnson, a bout he had zero chance of winning, but the reality of the situation is that there is no reason to believe that Bagautinov will ever be able to compete against the UFC’s top flyweights. If he ever plans on making another run towards the top of the division, he needs to defeat Herrera.
Ali Bagautinov: Looks decent, but still drops decision to Joseph Benavidez at UFC 192
FlyweightOther
October 3, 2015
Bagautinov lost to Joseph Benavidez via unanimous decision (27-30, 27-30, 28-29) at UFC 192 on Saturday in Houston.
ANALYSIS
Considering the opponent and how long he had been on the sideline, it was actually a pretty solid effort from Bagautinov. He clearly lost, but virtually all of the rounds were close and he certainly inflicted his fair share of damage on Joe B. Bagautinov hits very hard, but many of his shots are telegraphed and he often has problems reaching his opponents. The flyweight division is thin enough that Ali certainly has the ability to defeat many of the fighters currently on the UFC roster.

August 17, 2015
Bagautinov will face Joseph Benavidez at UFC 192 on October 3 in Houston, MMAJunkie.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Welcome back! Bagautinov has been suspended for the past year after failing a post fight drug test after his loss to Demetrious Johnson in a title fight in June 2014. His reward for returning is that he gets to face one of the better fights in the world. It could be a long night for "Puncher" in Houston.
