FanDuel MLB: Monday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

Pitchers

Andrew Cashner, $8,300 - Cashner is the ninth-highest priced pitcher today and gets a favorable matchup at home. Last season, Cashner was fantastic at Petco Park with a 1.43 ERA and a 0.89 WHIP. This season he has continued to post better numbers at home than on the road and gets a Mets' team that had to travel across the country Sunday night. It helps that the Mets' starter Jacob deGrom has struggled on the road more than at home for his career and the Padres are an early -115 favorite with an over/under of only 6.5.

Catcher

Yasmani Grandal, $2,700 - Happy Dodger Monday! The Dodgers have the best matchup on the board today with an away matchup against the Rockies in Coors Field. Oddly, it'll already be the fourth time Clayton Kershaw faces the Rockies and the second time at Coors. Grandal was placed on the 7-day concussion DL last week and promptly hit a home run off Michael Wacha Saturday in his first game back. He'll have a much easier matchup today against Kyle Kendrick and his .879 OPS is among the tops at the position. Just make sure after catching back-to-back games that he's in the lineup tonight.

First Base

Justin Bour, $2,600 - Bour is helping the "hot hand" theory with his recent play as he's homered in three straight games. While that doesn't guarantee success tonight, the big first baseman hasn't looked overmatched since he's gotten regular playing time. He owns an OPS north of 1.000 and his 10:5 K:BB ratio shows he's not swinging at anything. Bour will continue to see regular playing time with Mike Morse sidelined and his cleanup spot behind Mike Stanton is a very favorable place to hit. Don't worry about the matchup against Jason Hammel; Bour's three-run shot Friday night was off a better pitcher in Matt Harvey.

Second Base

Robinson Cano, $2,600 - This season has started out as one to forget for the former Yankee but he may be finally showing signs of life at the plate. Cano hit his second home run Saturday and heading into Sunday's game had multi-hit games in three of his last four. The matchup against Michael Pineda is not ideal but the cheap price here makes him worth the gamble. Outside of the elite options the position is pretty thin tonight.

Third Base

Pablo Sandoval, $2,400 - It's interesting that Panda is considering giving up being a switch-hitter and becoming a full-time lefty. Regardless, he's going to hit lefty against Mike Pelfrey tonight and has an .860 OPS against right-handed pitching this season. Pelfrey has pitched above the type of pitcher he really is and is probably due for a shelling. Pablo should continue to hit in the middle of the lineup and is a steal at this low of a price.

Shortstop

Jhonny Peralta, $3,400 - Peralta is in a four-way tie for the second highest priced shortstop and the only one more expensive is Troy Tulowitzki who gets Clayton Kershaw. Peralta seemingly continues to go under the radar in DFS despite being arguably the most productive fantasy player at the position. He's entrenched in the cleanup spot for the Cardinals and has averaged 4.7 fantasy points over his last seven games. While the Brewers haven't named a starter it will likely be someone without much less talent as Matt Garza who was originally supposed to start before being pressed into action Sunday afternoon. Teammate Randal Grichuk ($2600) is worth consideration as well.

Outfield

Delmon Young, $2,200 - Earlier Justin Bour was mentioned as picking a "hot hand" and Young fits that bill after a two homer game yesterday. Young finally has the monkey off his back and gets a great matchup against lefty Brett Oberholtzer. Minute Maid Field plays very well to right-handed batters and Young should continue to be in the three-spot as long as Adam Jones is out. He's a great option at the minimum price and allows more money to be allocated to other positions.

Andre Ethier, $2,600 - Its back to picking on Kyle Kendrick and Ethier makes a lot of sense given the lefty-righty matchup. Ethier has been a nice surprise for the Dodgers now that he sees semi-regular playing time with Yasiel Puig and Carl Crawford on the DL. Over 109 at-bats this season facing right-handed pitching, Ethier has a .957 OPS that includes nine home runs. He's another cheap way to get a piece of the Dodgers in Coors.

Gregory Polanco, $2,800 - There probably isn't a better fantasy outfield in the league than the Pirates and Polanco is priced as the cheapest right now. Despite playing in Petco Park over the weekend, Polanco went 5-for-15 with a home run and stolen base. The Giants will send Ryan Vogelsong to the mound who has faced 87 left-handed batters this season. Out of those batters he has allowed a .299 batting average against and eight home runs. Look for the Pirates to have a good offensive output even in AT&T Park.
