FanDuel MLB: Monday Picks

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

Pitchers

Andrew Heaney, $7,000 - Heaney has been fantastic since being called up and has been very consistent. He has recorded games of 17, 14.33, 17 and 10 fantasy points over his first four starts. Heaney's 1.32 ERA matches his 0.84 WHIP and he has struck out almost a batter per inning. Normally a matchup against the Red Sox would be a little daunting but there's a lot working in Heaney's favor. He's home against the Red Sox who should be a little road weary and Boston sports a team .674 OPS vs left-handed pitching, 21st in the league. Paying up for Gio Gonzalez at home against the Mets (.640 OPS vs lefties, 25th in the league) isn't a bad idea either.

Catcher

Kyle Schwarber, $2,600 - After sitting Sunday, Schwarber is reportedly going to get three straight starts beginning Monday. This is great news for DFS owners as Schwarber is at a ridiculously low price and is a better offensive player than defensive player. He's going to be in one of the better hitter's parks in the National League in Cincinnati and is a good option the next three days.

First Base

Ben Paulsen, $2,600 - It's not going to be a bad idea to run out a Rockies stack tonight given they are home and matched up against Nick Martinez. Paulsen sports a .896 OPS at home this season and a .823 OPS against right-handed pitching. Hitting in the middle of the lineup should provide plenty of RBI opportunities and it doesn't hurt that Martinez is making his first Coors Field start.

Second Base

Robinson Cano, $3,300 - Cano's bat has finally come to life and he sits in a great spot for tonight's slate. He has eight doubles, six home runs and is batting .284 over the last calendar month. His ground ball rate has dropped as well and he's got a plus matchup. For whatever reason, the Tigers continue to run out Alfredo Simon who has gotten lit up over his last five starts. Simon has been consistent, giving up at least five runs in each of those five starts. On the season he's given up nine home runs and a .320 batting average to left-handed batters. Feel free to fire up Kyle Seager as well.

Third Base

Maikel Franco, $3,100 - Franco is one of the few bright spots on the Phillies this season and is a good trade target for those in season-long or dynasty leagues. Tonight he gets a plus matchup in his home hitter's park against a left-handed pitcher. Franco has a .893 OPS this season against southpaws and is facing Matt Moore, a pitcher making his way back from Tommy John surgery. Moore hasn't pitched past the fifth inning in any of his first three starts and has given up at least three runs in each of them. Look for Franco to take advantage of the home matchup.

Shortstop

Jose Iglesias, $2,400 - Iglesias has been one of the more underrated hitters at the position posting a .310 batting average on the season and a .997 OPS against left-handed pitching. He gets a lefty in J.A. Happ tonight and is in the middle of a hot streak. Iglesias has 8 and 11.5 fantasy points in two of his last three games yet oddly continues to bat towards the bottom of the lineup. The price is only $200 off the minimum and its possible Brad Ausmus reads this and puts Iglesias and his .371 OBP (best among Tiger regulars) at the top of the lineup.

Outfield

Brandon Barnes, $2,900 - If you're looking for another cheap piece of the Rockies outfield, Barnes is the next viable option after Paulsen. He's been a regular in the outfield and is on a mini-hit streak after going 8-for-15 over his last five games. Those eight hits included three doubles, a triple and three runs scored. Considering the price of Carlos Gonzalez ($4,500) and Charlie Blackmon ($5,000), Barnes is a nice value with good upside.

Billy Hamilton, $3,100 - Conditions are right for Hamilton to have a field day on the bases Monday. Behind the plate will be the aforementioned Kyle Schwarber who was at Triple-A working on his defense. That suggests that should Hamilton get on base, there's a good chance after two pitches he'll be on third. Helping his cause is the matchup against lefty Clayton Richard as the switch-hitting Hamilton has hit better from the right side of the plate.

Matt Kemp, $3,400 - The price isn't cheap here but Kemp is still way undervalued considering the elite outfielders are going for around $5,000. Kemp has at least 2.5 fantasy points in each of his last seven games and is averaging 5.4 fantasy points per game over the time frame. He's hit three home runs in his last six games and had a double yesterday before the game was called due to weather. Kemp also has some positive history against start Time Hudson with a .902 OPS over 25 plate appearances. Keep in mind too that Hudson is on the decline of his career and not even close to the dominant pitcher he once was.
