FanDuel MLB: Monday Value Plays

FanDuel MLB: Monday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

Pitchers

Tyson Ross, $8,900 - While Ross isn't exactly cheap at this price he is only the sixth highest pitcher on tonight's slate. There aren't a lot of mid-priced options and it seems to make sense to spend an extra $1500 to roster Ross over the likes of Bartolo Colon, Kyle Hendricks or Brett Anderson. Ross' ERA is up at home this season but he's only given up one home run over 65.3 innings and for his career has pitched better there than on the road. He enters the game scoring at least eight fantasy points in each of his last nine games and double-digits in seven of those games.

Catcher

Buster Posey, $3,000 - Posey's price is the lowest it's been all season so now is the time to take advantage. He's the 11th highest priced catcher and gets the benefit of the righty-lefty matchup going against Brett Anderson who he has a .308 batting average against (albeit in 12 at-bats). Don't overthink this one in cash games, just go with the safe play.

First Base

Justin Bour, $2,200 - Bour fits the mold of a player coming into tonight's game on a power streak, has a good matchup and is at the minimum price. Mike Foltynewicz has given up 17 home runs this season in only 86.2 innings while sporting a 5.71 ERA. Bour will be hitting in his usual cleanup spot and have the opportunity for RBI even if he doesn't go yard. In addition, the bullpen for the Braves is spent after giving up a gazillion runs to the Yankees over the weekend.

Second Base

Jose Altuve, $3,600 - It's nearly impossible to find a low or mid-priced option that you can pencil in for even a couple of positive points so it makes sense to pay up a little at the position. Altuve is coming off a monster game in Target Field with 10.75 fantasy points and you'd have to go back many, many games to find a negative performance by him. He's home tonight in a more favorable ballpark to right-handed hitters and gets the favorable split matchup against Vidal Nuno. Altuve has a .960 OPS against southpaws this season and has actually a higher stolen base rate against left-handed pitching than right-handed pitching.

Third Base

Evan Longoria, $2,400 - Longoria's price is pretty indicative of his production as his OPS sits at a mediocre .738. However, this price is too tempting and he moves into a favorable ballpark tonight at Camden Yards. He has a .879 career OPS against Wei-Yin Chen (37 plate appearances) and should man his usual spot in the three hole tonight.

Shortstop

Marcus Semien, $3,000 - Shortstop is a messy position tonight and there's not a lot of attractive options for a decent price looking at any of the matchups. While Semien lacks the skills to be an effective defensive shortstop, he does a serviceable job against left-handed pitching at the plate. For the season he has a .810 OPS (.311 BA) over 119 at-bats against lefties and gets Hector Santiago at home. It doesn't hurt that Santiago has been on a skid as of late, posting a 5.74 ER over his last six starts.

Outfield

Mike Trout, $4,000 - Trout has never been mentioned on a Monday all season so it's not totally grabbing the low hanging fruit here. His price has come down too much to be ignored and he might have turned the corner on a recent slump after a 4-for-4 day at the plate Sunday. Trout has always hit lefties better and gets Felix Doubront, a pitcher in an extremely small sample he's gone 2-for-5 with two doubles and a walk against. There are enough other value plays to easily fit Mike Trout you're your lineup at this price.

Mark Trumbo, $2,500 - Most DFS players are going to shy away from Trumbo after a quick glance at his matchup against Dallas Keuchel. The instinct is that while Trumbo crushes left-handed pitching, Keuchel is an elite option. However, in a small sample, Trumbo has gone a staggering 5-for-10 against Keuchel with a double, two triples and two home runs. As stated earlier, Minute Maid Park plays nicely to right-handed hitters.

Jonny Gomes, $2,500 - While his pitching skills may leave something to be desired, Gomes' ability to hit lefties has been pretty consistent throughout his career. He has two home runs over the last week and gets a great matchup against Chris Narveson who has given up a home run in each of his last five appearances. Gomes should be hitting in the cleanup spot and should be in a good RBI spot if the Braves can set the table for him.
