FanDuel MLB: Friday Value Plays

FanDuel MLB: Friday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

PITCHER

Aaron Nola, PHI at MIL, ($6.900): Nola is the 17th highest-priced pitcher on the board despite scoring 12, 36 and 42 fantasy points over his first three games, respectively. A floor of 12 points isn't great by any stretch but the upside of 30-plus for a player below $7K is very attractive. Nola gets a good matchup against the Brewers, who have struck out over 25 percent of the time versus right-handed pitchers this season. A matchup against Kyle Davies should put the Phillies in a good position to get Nola the win as well.

CATCHER

Yan Gomes, CLE vs DET, ($2,500): Gomes got the day off Thursday but should be back behind the plate Friday as the Tribe faces off with the Tigers. Justin Verlander hasn't been sharp to start the season, giving up at least three runs in every start, and he's had reverse splits the last few seasons, giving up a greater wOBA to right-handed batters. Gomes also has BvP working in his favor, as he has a .923 OPS against Verlander over 24 plate appearances.

FIRST BASE

Tyler White, HOU vs BOS, ($3,100): Despite a nice minor league track record and a good start to the season, it's hard to see White being heavily owned. Over 45 plate appearances this season against right-handed pitching White has a .442 wOBA, including three home runs. White's opposing pitcher, Steven Wright, had a wOBA 31 points worse (.330) against right-handed hitters than left-handed pitchers last season.

SECOND BASE

Neil Walker, NYM at ARI, ($3,300): Both old Mets second baseman Daniel Murphy and new Mets second baseman Walker have gotten off to scorching start to the season. In a very, very limited sample, Walker has gone 7-for-11 with three home runs this year against left-handed pitching and gets a hitter-friendly park in Arizona. On the other side of the lineup, going with Paul Goldschmidt ($4,500) against lefty Jon Niese makes a lot of sense.

THIRD BASE

Evan Longoria, TB at NYY, ($2,900): This is one of the cheapest prices Longoria has had since DFS started, but he has a lot working in his favor coming into tonight's game, starting with a good hitter's park to work in. On top of that, CC Sabathia is on the downswing of his career and Longoria has a 1.268 OPS again him, including six home runs, in 77 plate appearances. Pairing him with teammate Logan Forsythe ($3,300), who has a 1.333 OPS against Sabathia, isn't a terrible idea.

SHORTSTOP

Brandon Crawford, SF vs MIA, ($2,900): This pick is a little outside the box considering Crawford is batting .216 this season. That being said, Crawford had a .341 wOBA against right-handed pitching last season and now faces Jarred Cosart, who struggled away from the pitcher-friendly confines of Marlins Park last season, posting a .386 wOBA, including nine home runs in 33 innings. He also enters the game with a 6.10 ERA and a 1.65 WHIP this season.

OUTFIELD

Khris Davis, OAK at TOR, ($2,600): To be honest, this is likely a play best left for GPPs. Davis has looked lost at the plate most of the season after switching teams and heading to the American League. He has 21 strikeouts in 53 plate appearances (39.6 percent) but he might be turning the corner. Davis' price is depressed as a result and he's gone 3-for-8 in his last two games, including his first home run of the season. The game up in the Rogers Centre will play better than if he was home in Oakland.

Ryan Raburn, COL vs LAD, ($3,400): Raburn is a notorious southpaw killer and this season he gets to show what he can do in the friendly confines of Coors Field. He now gets to face Scott Kazmir, who has given up 10 earned runs over his last eight innings. Last season, Raburn had a .423 wOBA against left-handed pitching and should be hitting in the heart of the Colorado lineup. He'll be a popular play and probably won't be someone to fade in cash games.

Yasmany Tomas, ARI vs NYM, ($3,400): Tomas appears to be starting a breakout season, hitting safely in seven straight games. Of these games, hitting cleanup against San Diego last Sunday was the most notable, as he hit two home runs. He hit another home run last game in San Francisco and had a .341 wOBA last season against left-handed pitching. In a small sample, that wOBA has carried over against lefties, as he has a .605 wOBA this season and hitting behind the combo of David Peralta and Paul Goldschmidt doesn't hurt either.
