Yahoo DFS Baseball: Sunday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

PITCHER

Gerrit Cole, PIT vs. CIN ($44): Cole has won two straight decisions and had a complete-game, three-hit victory against the Mariners two starts ago. He's given up just three earned runs over the 18 innings encompassing his last three starts, and the Reds have the fourth-lowest wOBA (.305) in the NL against right-handed pitching, along with a 21.6 percent strikeout rate. They also struggle away from hitter-friendly Great American Ballpark, as evidenced by their .293 road wOBA, while Cole has generated a solid 2.53 ERA at PNC Park this season.

Dylan Bundy, BAL at CWS ($39): Bundy has scored between 24 and 37 fantasy points over his last three starts, giving up just three earned runs over the 17.2 innings during that span. The White Sox have the fourth-lowest wOBA (.305) against right-handed pitching in the American League, and Bundy brings plenty of strikeout potential against a team that's struck out 20.8 percent of the time against righty pitchers.

CATCHER

Willson Contreras, CHC at OAK ($9):  Contreras comes in on a five-game hitting streak, and he has a .357 wOBA against lefties and 35.7 percent hard contact against them away from Wrigley Field. A's starter Sean Manaea has given up a .350 wOBA and 12 of his 14 homers to right-handed hitters, along with eight runs (seven earned) on 17 hits (including three homers) and three walks over his last 12.1 innings.

FIRST BASE

Victor Martinez, DET vs. NYM ($11) Martinez offers solid value despite the matchup against Jacob deGrom. He's posted multi-hit efforts in four of his last eight games, with two homers over that span, and he has 14 of his 19 homers on the season against righties, along with a .385 wOBA against that handedness on the road. While deGrom presents a considerable challenge, Martinez provides a high-upside play at a significant savings.

SECOND BASE

Jonathan Schoop, BAL at CWS ($11): Schoop is another player whose price is somewhat of a head-scratcher, particularly considering his matchup versus James Shields. Schoop has a .348 wOBA and .206 ISO against right-handed pitching, along with 14 homers. He's also hit safely in five of his last six games, while Shields has given up a .359 wOBA and 37.4 percent hard contact rate to righty hitters. While the veteran pitcher has had his moments in a White Sox uniform, he's coming off a start when he gave up six earned runs on nine hits over five innings against the Tigers.

THIRD BASE

Kris Bryant, CHC at OAK ($20): Given A's starter Sean Manaea's struggles against right-handed hitters, Bryant makes for a terrific tournament or cash game play. He's blasted lefties to the tune of a .423 wOBA , .306 ISO and 40.6 percent hard contact rate this season, and he's been even better against southpaws outside of Wrigley Field, with his road wOBA a healthy .432.

SHORTSTOP

Troy Tulowitzki, TOR at KC ($14): Tulo has reached base safely in six straight, with double-digit fantasy points and a pair of homers over that span. He has a .330 wOBA, .225 ISO, 14 homers and a 38.2 percent road hard contact rate against right-handed pitching, while Royals starter Yordano Ventura has surrendered a 37.5 percent hard-hit rate over his last five starts.

OUTFIELD

Jay Bruce, NYM at DET ($20): Anibal Sanchez takes the hill for the Tigers, so having at least one potent left-handed Mets bat is highly recommended. Sanchez has actually done a much better job of limiting the long ball as the season has gone on, but he still surrenders a .360 wOBA to lefty bats that rises to .380 when facing them at Comerica Park. Bruce has a .371 wOBA and .312 ISO against righty arms, and a 40.7 percent hard contact rate when facing them on the road. He's also gotten his Mets tenure off to a solid start, with two homers over the last three games and hits in each of those.

Leonys Martin, SEA vs. LAA ($10): Martin is another bargain-priced option with some pop in his bat, and he's punished Angels starter Matt Shoemaker to the tune of a .467/.467/.800 line over 15 career at-bats, with a pair of doubles, one homer and two RBI. He also has eight of his 13 homers on the season against right-handed pitching, while Shoemaker has given up a 33.2 percent hard contact rate to left-handed hitters this season.

Mike Trout, LAA at SEA ($22): Trout has double-digit fantasy points in four of his last six games and a homer in two straight. He has a .369 wOBA an a massive 45 percent hard contact rate against them on the road. Meanwhile, opposing starter James Paxton has given up a .326 wOBA to right-handed hitters, along with a 34.1 percent hard contact rate at home.
