FanDuel MLB: Friday Value Plays

FanDuel MLB: Friday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

PITCHER

David Phelps, MIA vs SD ($7,000): Phelps has put together a stellar season with a 2.28 ERA backed by a 1.11 WHIP. His .251 home wOBA is slightly better than his road wOBA (.263), and he has a ridiculous 33.8 percent strikeout rate at home. The Padres make for a great matchup, as they have the worst wOBA against right-handed pitchers this season (.291) and have a team wOBA of .264 (worst in the league by 27 points) over the last week. Phelps has strung together five straight games of at least 25 fantasy points, showing a consistent floor. Throw in a good matchup against Jarred Cosart (4.54 ERA, 1.69 WHIP) and Phelps has an excellent shot at the win.

CATCHER

Gary Sanchez, NYY vs BAL, ($3,400): If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Sanchez is still worth this price given what he's done and the matchup at Yankee Stadium. While the nine home runs in 19 games is very impressive, he's also reached base in all but one game over that span. In his short stint he's been better against right-handed pitching (.602 wOBA), and he now gets a plus matchup against Yovani Gallardo, who has given up a .343 wOBA to righties and has posted a K rate barely above 15 percent.

FIRST BASE

Brandon Belt, SF vs ATL ($3,100): While Belt has struggled over the last seven games (.679 OPS), he still has a .365 wOBA against right-handed pitching this season. After a day off, he'll now face Joel De La Cruz, who has a 4.47 ERA and 24:16 K:BB ratio this season. For his career, Belt has always hit better at home, sporting a .360 wOBA.

SECOND BASE

Joe Panik, SF vs ATL ($2,900): To be honest, second base is a wasteland Friday and you're probably better off just paying up for one of the top options. That being said, Panik is probably the best value play coming off a game with a home run. He has at least 15.6 fantasy points in four of his last six games (9.2 in another) and has the same favorable matchup as Belt. Panik had a .369 wOBA against right-handed pitching last season and should be in a good RBI spot tonight.

THIRD BASE

Wilmer Flores, NYM vs PHI ($2,500): Any time Flores is in the lineup against a southpaw he should be an automatic pick in both cash games and GPPs. He's done nothing but rake this season against lefties, sporting a .447 wOBA. Flores has hit nine of his 13 home runs this season against left-handed pitching and incredibly done it in 75 fewer at-bats than against right-handed pitchers. Friday's opponent, Adam Morgan, has allowed 15 home runs in only 57.2 innings leading to a .396 wOBA to right-handed hitters.

SHORTSTOP

Troy Tulowitzki, TOR vs MIN ($3,000): It makes a lot of sense to load up on Blue Jays at home against left Pat Dean, who is a fill-in starter with a 5.48 ERA and 1.50 WHIP. Tulowitzki in the hitter-friendly park in Toronto has a .370 wOBA against lefties; his best split when using that stat. Again, in both cash and GPPs it's a good idea to load up on Toronto players.

OUTFIELD

Stephen Piscotty, STL vs OAK ($3,600): Like Flores, Piscotty should be a fixture in DFS lineups any time he's facing a lefty. That will be the case Friday as the Cardinals take on Ross Detwiler and the Athletics. Piscotty has been hitting cleanup the last couple of games and has a .413 wOBA against lefties. Detwiler in a small sample this season has given up a .396 wOBA and that mark was at a whopping .477 last season (.368 in 2014). Piscotty isn't at the cheapest price but given these stats he's worth paying up.

Enrique Hernandez, LAD vs CHC ($2,700): The theme continues with Hernandez for right-handed hitters who crush left-handed pitching. Hernandez has a .393 wOBA for his career, including a .507 mark last season. The Dodgers have been hitting him leadoff against lefties and Mike Montgomery is only making his second start of the season. Look for Hernandez to be in a good groove, especially since he'll be getting his third start in four games.

Ryan Raburn, COL at WAS ($2,800): Raburn hasn't quite been the lefty-killer he has been in the past, but he still has a respectable .343 wOBA this season against them. Last year, Raburn had a .423 wOBA against left-pitching, showing that it wasn't merely a product of hitting in Coors Field. He has some good history against Gio Gonzalez as well, going 7-for-14 against him with four home runs, leading to a 1.748 OPS. Gonzalez has given up a .326 wOBA to right-handed hitters this year and has a 5.93 ERA over his last three starts.
