DraftKings MLB: Monday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

PITCHER

Jeff Samardzija, SF vs. SD ($10,600): The Padres are the worst team in the league against righties according to wOBA, and they are a bottom-5 team against the cutter, a pitch Samardzija throws 24 percent of the time. The Shark is coming off an impressive performance in Colorado, where he allowed just two runs and struck out nine batters in seven innings.

Andrew Cashner, MIA at ATL ($6,300): Cashner has shown flashes of excellence in his time with the Marlins, allowing two earned runs or fewer in five of his eight starts. The 30-year-old will have a nice opportunity to keep runs off the board against the Braves, as they have the lowest runs above average mark in the league against the slider, a pitch he throws 21 percent of the time.

CATCHER

Sandy Leon, BOS vs. BAL ($3,600): Leon's numbers against lefties remain otherworldly, as he has tallied a .400/.486/.667 slash line over 60 at-bats. Wade Miley has been starched since being acquired by the Orioles at the trade deadline, pitching to a 7.15 ERA in 34 innings (seven starts).

FIRST BASE

Paul Goldschmidt, ARI vs. COL ($4,700):Tyler Anderson is a bright young star in the Rockies' rotation, but Goldschmidt and his .482 OBP against lefties is hard to ignore at this price. Anderson holds a 1.4 HR/9 rate against righties in his 16 starts this season.

SECOND BASE

Devon Travis, TOR vs. TB ($3,800):Jake Odorizzi is sporting a drastic reverse split in 2016, as his .479 slugging percentage allowed against righties is nearly 140 points higher than his mark against opposite-handed hitters. This figures to be a nice matchup for someone like Travis, who has a .311/.350/.498 batting line against righties over 79 games.

THIRD BASE

Evan Longoria, TB at TOR ($3,600): Longoria has performed better when facing right-handers this year, but he should have an advantage against Francisco Liriano, who will bring his ground ball tendencies against the 30-year-old's 48 percent fly ball rate. Longoria has found success when playing away from the pitcher-friendly confines of Tropicana Field, as evidenced by his road .362 wOBA.

SHORTSTOP

Brandon Crawford, SF vs. SD ($4,100):Paul Clemens has been blasted to the tune of a 5.44 ERA and 2.2 HR/9 rate in his 49.2 innings this season. Crawford has shown solid power against righties this year, tagging them for nine home runs and a .189 ISO over 333 at-bats.

OUTFIELD

Adam Duvall, CIN vs. MIL ($3,900):Wily Peralta has an xFIP under 4.00 against righties, but he still carries a 1.7 HR/9 rate against them over 19 starts. Peralta comes into the contest with a 49 percent ground ball rate, which is matched by Duvall's 47 percent fly ball rate. It is also worth noting that Duvall has tallied a 4.5 runs above average score against the slider, a pitch Peralta turns to 29 percent of the time.

Jay Bruce, NYM at WAS ($4,400):Mat Latos was hit hard by regression after a promising start to the season, and while he has fared well in Washington's minor league system, he carries a 4.74 ERA and 1.6 HR/9 rate over 62.2 innings at the major league level this year. Bruce has struggled mightily since being acquired by the Mets, but he still has a .276 ISO against righties over 344 total at-bats.

Chris Young, BOS vs. BAL ($4,400): We will close with another strong platoon bat against Miley, as Young has registered a .316 ISO against lefties this season. Young will also have a platoon advantage in the matchup, as he puts the ball in the air 52 percent of the time, while Miley gets ground balls at a 48 percent clip.

Other options: Kendrys Morales, KC vs. OAK ($4,700); Joc Pederson, LAD at NYY ($4,600); Robbie Grossman, MIN at DET ($4,300)
