Yahoo DFS Baseball: Wednesday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

Pitcher

Rick Porcello, BOS vs. BAL ($47): Porcello's storybook season includes a career-high win total, as well as nine straight starts with at least seven innings pitched and 12 consecutive starts with at least 21 fantasy points. While the Orioles are certainly a potent lineup and tallied five earned runs off Porcello in their only other meeting this season, he's pitching his best ball of the season at this time and owns a perfect 13-0 record at Fenway Park.

Hisashi Iwakuma, SEA at LAA ($35): Iwakuma has pitched well in the second half of the season, with an ERA almost a full run lower than what he allowed before the All-Star break. He's also generated a solid 3.49 ERA against the Angels over 28.2 innings this season, while Los Angeles also sports the lowest wOBA (.240) in the majors over the last seven days, along with a 21.8 percent strikeout rate over that span.

Catcher

Salvador Perez, OAK at KC ($10): Perez gives you some cheap exposure to A's starter Sean Manaea, who's given up a .374 wOBA to right-handed hitters on the road along with a 2.15 HR/9, 21.4 percent HR/FB rate and 40.3 percent hard contact rate. Perez counters with a .336 wOBA, .250 ISO and 31.4 percent hard contact rate against southpaws at home, rendering him a potentially high-upside value play.

First Base

Paul Goldschmidt, ARI vs. COL ($22): Goldschmidt is the first of two high-powered right-handed bats I like against Rockies starter Jeff Hoffman, who's given up a .437 wOBA overall on the road, as well as a 2.70 HR/9, 54.6 percent hard contact rate, and .442 wOBA against righties away from Coors. Goldschmidt owns a .402 wOBA at Chase Field, and a .372 wOBA, .221 ISO, 24.4 percent HR/FB rate and 37.1 percent hard contact rate against righties at home. He's been swinging a hot bat as well, with double-digit fantasy points in four of his last six games.

Second Base

Trea Turner, WAS vs. NYM ($23): Turner continues rolling along with three double-digit fantasy point efforts in his last five games, and a .347 average, three homers and a .408 wOBA in the last 11 games. He also boasts a .419 wOBA, .313 ISO and 30.9 percent hard contact rate against righties at home, while Mets pitcher Robert Gsellman has given up a .385 wOBA to right-handed hitters on the road, along with a 31.3 percent hard contact rate.

Third Base

Justin Turner, LAD at NYY ($16): Yankees starter Michael Pineda has been particularly vulnerable to right-handed hitters at Yankee Stadium, where they've tagged him for a .355 wOBA, 12 homers, 2.49 HR/9 and 25.5 percent HR/FB rate. He's also given up a .393 wOBA over his last two starts. Meanwhile, Turner has been absolutely lethal against right-handed pitching on the road, tallying a .408 wOBA, .293 ISO, 12 homers and 41.1 percent hard contact rate against that handedness outside of Dodger Stadium. He comes into Wednesday hot as well, with two homers in his last three games and three round-trippers overall in just nine September contests.

Shortstop

Jonathan Villar, MIL at CIN ($20): The switch-hitting Villar matches up nicely with Reds starter Tim Adleman, who's given up a .382 wOBA and six of his 10 homers on the season to lefty bats, along with a 23.8 percent HR/FB rate and massive 3.65 HR/9 when facing them at hitter-friendly Great American Ball Park. Villar has 10 of his 15 homers on the season against right-handed pitching, along with a .341 wOBA, 35 percent hard contact rate and 20.4 percent HR/FB rate. He's been an even better hitter away from Miller Park during his breakout season as well, with a .300 average and .364 wOBA on the road.

Outfield

Yasmany Tomas, ARI vs. COL ($15): Tomas is hitting .700 with seven RBI overall in his last two games, along with double-digit fantasy points in three of his last four contests. He's an excellent value option against Hoffman, whose extensive struggles against right-handed hitters were detailed previously. Tomas body of work against right-handed pitching includes a 40.7 percent hard contact rate and 20.7 percent HR/FB rate, and he owns a .329 wOBA and .230 ISO at Chase Field.

J.D. Martinez, DET vs. MIN ($25): Twins starter Tyler Duffey has yielded a robust .411 wOBA and 17 of his 23 homers on the season to right-handed hitters, numbers accompanied by a bloated 25 percent HR/FB rate and 37.2 percent hard contact rate. Those type of numbers spell trouble against Martinez, who's crushed righties this season to the tune of a .325 average, 15 homers and a .409 wOBA, and an astounding .473 wOBA , 301 ISO and 41.5 percent hard contact rate when facing them at Comerica Park.

Mookie Betts, BOS vs. BAL ($22): Betts is an ideal option with which to exploit Orioles starter Kevin Gausman's struggles on the road against right-handed hitters, which are evidenced by the .384 wOBA, 10 homers, 22.7 percent HR/FB rate and 32.9 percent hard contact he's yielded to righty bats outside of Camden Yards. He's also given up a 35.7 percent hard contact rate over his last two starts, while Betts has a .411 wOBA at Fenway Park, and a .414 wOBA, .245 ISO and 35.5 percent hard contact rate against righty arms there.
