DraftKings MLB: Wednesday Picks

DraftKings MLB: Wednesday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

PITCHER

Ervin Santana, MIN at KC ($9,300): Santana comes in looking to close out a strong bounce-back season, which has seen him register a 3.37 ERA and a seven percent walk rate over 29 starts. Kansas City looks to be at a considerable disadvantage in this matchup, as runs above average places them as a bottom-5 team against the slider, a pitch Santana throws 37 percent of the time.

Mike Leake, STL vs. CIN ($5,600): Leake was knocked around in his last start against the Cubs, but he had not allowed more than three earned runs in any of his previous six outings. The Reds are a bottom-10 team on the road according to wOBA, and will bring just a 33 percent fly ball rate against the 28-year-old's extreme ground ball profile.

CATCHER

Welington Castillo, ARI at WAS ($4,000): The catcher position offers some less-than-desirable plays from a value perspective, but Castillo deserves attention because of his .246 ISO against left-handed pitchers. Gio Gonzalez has been squared up by righties pretty well this year, as evidenced by his 34 percent hard contact rate over 135.1 innings.

FIRST BASE

Mike Napoli, CLE at DET ($3,500): Napoli has hit just .148 over his last 81 at-bats, but he has still tallied a .210 ISO over that span. He should have a chance to improve his overall numbers against Michael Fulmer, as he has an 8.7 runs above average score against the slider, a pitch Fulmer throws 26 percent of the time.

SECOND BASE

Ian Kinsler, DET vs. CLE ($4,300):Zach McAllister has been hit hard by righties this season, logging a .447 slugging percentage against them over 25.2 innings. Kinsler has a .345 wOBA and a 34 percent hard contact rate against same-handed pitchers over 441 at-bats.

THIRD BASE

Hernan Perez, MIL at TEX ($3,800):Cole Hamels has thrown the ball well this season, but he has had some trouble keeping the ball in the yard at Globe Life Park, allowing 13 homers over 85 innings. Perez has shown a considerable amount of power against his opposite hand, tallying a .207 ISO over 70 games.

SHORTSTOP

Danny Espinosa, WAS vs. ARI ($3,300):Shelby Miller had his best start of the season when he blanked the Orioles for six innings last week, but he remains a stack target for lefties due to his .559 slugging percentage allowed over 51.2 innings. Espinosa has kept a 4.4 runs above average score against the cutter, a pitch Miller turns to 20 percent of the time.

OUTFIELD

Jay Bruce, NYM at MIA ($4,100): Bruce's struggles saw him lose his spot in the starting lineup for a period earlier this month, but he remains dangerous against right-handed pitchers, having notched a .273 ISO against them over 373 at-bats. Jose Urena throws his fastball hard, but the pitch has resulted in a runs above average score of minus-2.2 over 78.2 innings, which has contributed to his 5.95 ERA.

Khris Davis, OAK at LAA ($4,800):Alex Meyer put together a command performance against the Blue Jays, but he came back to earth in his last start against the Astros, allowing four runs in just 5.1 innings, and he has an ERA approaching 6.00 over six games (five starts). Meyer relies heavily on his curveball, which may not be the best strategy against someone like Davis, who has a 5.3 runs above average mark against the pitch this year.

Robbie Grossman, MIN at KC ($4,300):Jason Vargas has seen decent results in two starts since returning from Tommy John surgery, but he has logged a 5.20 xFIP over that span. Grossman has dominated lefty pitching this year, tallying a .252 ISO and a .440 wOBA over 115 at-bats.

Other options: Jackie Bradley Jr., BOS at NYY ($5,100); Melky Cabrera, CWS vs. TB ($4,600); Miguel Sano, MIN at KC ($4,800)
