FanDuel MLB: Wednesday Picks

FanDuel MLB: Wednesday Picks

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

Pitcher

Garrett Richards, LAA at OAK ($8,600): The price here doesn't scream bargain, but Richards seems like a solid contrarian play as many will look to Chris Sale ($11,400), Jacob deGrom ($9,800) or Rich Hill ($9,600). Richards' velocity was flirting with the mid-to-upper 90s during spring, and he's allowed a .189 BAA and .625 OPS to all current A's. Oakland's light-hitting lineup paired with a matchup against opposing starter Jharel Cotton gives Richards a solid opportunity to pick up a win.

Catcher

J.T. Realmuto, MIA at WAS ($2,300): Realmuto's price doesn't appear to have adjusted to his offensive upside and current opportunity. Simply put, you'll be hard-pressed to find a catcher hitting in the two-hole, let alone one that is capable of going deep or stealing bases. He's going to be a fixture in this column regardless of matchup, and in this instance, he's gone 9-of-17 against Nats starter Tanner Roark.

First Base

Adrian Gonzalez, LAD vs. SDP ($2,800): Gonzalez owns a career .379 wOBA and .226 ISO against right handers. Gonzalez is also 12-of-30 with three home runs in his career against Cahill, who has made only four starts in the past two seasons and owns a 4.14 ERA and allows a .324 wOBA as a starter.

Second Base

Devon Travis, TOR at BAL ($2,400): Baltimore starter Dylan Bundy closed 2016 by posting a 5.11 ERA in September, and followed that up with a 7.42 ERA and 9:4 K:BB ratio this spring. He also allowed a .319 BABIP to righties last year. Travis, the Jays' leadoff hitter, hit righties considerably better last year, owning a .360 wOBA and .838 OPS compared to .263 and .617, respectively, against righties.

Third Base

Maikel Franco, PHI at CIN ($3,000): Franco found plenty of success against lefties last season, rolling up a .238 ISO and .357 wOBA. He'll square off against Brandon Finnegan on Wednesday, a lefty who allowed 27 of his 29 home runs to right-handed hitters a year ago.

Shortstop

Brandon Crawford, SFG at ARI ($2,500): I didn't have to edit much here from Sunday's column. Crawford has opened the year with two solid showings, including his first home run of the campaign Tuesday. He'll face Taijuan Walker, who allowed 2.13 home runs per nine innings to left-handers while pitching half of his games in spacious Safeco Field, a luxury he won't have this season with the Diamondbacks.

Outfield

Charlie Blackmon, COL at MIL ($4,000): The Rockies haven't had much trouble scoring through two games in Milwaukee, making spending up for the top portion of their order a wise proposition. Blackmon sets thet able atop the order, and posted a .405 wOBA against right-handers last year. Meanwhile, Wednesday's starter for the Brewers, Wily Peralta, struck out lefties at only a 14 percent rate while allowing a .374 wOBA, keeping Blackmon's floor relatively high.

Andrew Benintendi, BOS vs. PIT ($3,300): For as much hype as Benintendi carries, his lefty-versus-righty splits last year were eye-opening. He went .300/.454/.584 against righties compared to a .179/.250/.179 against southpaws. Good thing Wednesday's starter, Jameson Taillon, is right-handed, and also struggled against left-handed bats, allowing a .314 wOBP and .423 SLG last year.

Joc Pederson, LAD vs. SDP ($3,100): Pederson is a near must-start thanks to his power upside against right-handed pitchers. He posted an eye opening .386 wOBA, .278 ISO and .918 OPS in 2016, and after sitting Tuesday, he's a virtual lock to be in the lineup Wednesday against the aforementioned Cahill.
