FantasyDraft MLB: Saturday Values

This article is part of our FantasyDraft MLB series.

PITCHER

Clayton Kershaw, LAD at SD ($27,600): Kershaw is at his most dominant at home, but he already scored 32.55 fantasy points against this same Padres squad on opening night and has a 0.66 ERA and .109 BAA in Petco Park over his last two starts there. The Padres also have the lowest wOBA in the National League versus southpaws (.255), along with a 22.3 percent strikeout rate.

Dylan Bundy, BAL vs. CWS ($16,200): Bundy has been solid throughout the season and draws a White Sox squad that's last in the majors in wOBA versus righties (.270) while also striking out 24.7 percent of the time versus that handedness. Bundy has been particularly strong at Camden Yards as well, allowing a .228 wOBA, .194 BAA and posting a 1.33 ERA over 20.1 innings.

INFIELD

Paul Goldschmidt, ARI at COL ($10,200): There's a case to be made for stacking the D-Backs on Saturday, and there's no Arizona bat hotter than Goldschmidt's. He's posted a .360 batting average, .509 wOBA and 47.4 percent hard contact rate over the last seven games and has a .349 wOBA and 56.5 percent hard contact rate versus southpaws, including 60.0 percent when facing them on the road. Meanwhile, Rockies starter Tyler Anderson has allowed a .411 wOBA and six homers to right-handed hitters, along with a 38.7 percent hard contact rate.

Jonathan Schoop, BAL vs. CWS ($7,500): White Sox rookie starter Dylan Covey has given up a .530 wOBA (including .575 on the road), 9.40 xFIP and 38.2 percent hard contact rate to right-handed hitters, while Schoop has a .359 batting average and .419 wOBA (including .501 on the road) against right-handed pitchers. Furthermore, even though he's homerless since April 24, he's likely due for a breakout, as he's posted a 23.1 percent line drive rate and 40.0 percent hard contact rate in the 41 plate appearances over the last 10 games.

Yonder Alonso, OAK vs. DET ($5,700): There are several appealing low-cost infielders, including the Marlins' Miguel Rojas ($5,200) and Alonso's teammate Chad Pinder ($4,000), but Alonso comes in with a .305/.387/.585 slash line and six home runs, one fewer than he had all of last year. He draws a good matchup against Tigers starter Jordan Zimmermann, who he's touched up for a .308 batting average, two doubles and one homer in 13 career plate appearances, and who's 3-1 record is largely a mirage. The right-hander is also due for a regression against lefty bats, as the 5.59 xFIP, 24.5 percent line drive rate and 45.1 percent hard contact rate he's yielded to that handedness of hitter belies the respectable .314 wOBA he's allowed to them. Meanwhile, Alonso has posted a .328 batting average, four homers, .410 wOBA, 27.5 percent line drive rate and 37.5 percent hard contact rate versus righties.

OUTFIELD

Yasmany Tomas, ARI at COL ($9,200): Rockies starter Tyler Anderson's problems against right-handed hitters were detailed earlier, and Tomas is due for a breakout against southpaws, considering his 31.6 percent line drive rate and 42.1 percent hard contact versus that handedness. The same can be said about his performance at the plate since he last homered on April 27, as his .059 average and unsustainable .091 BABIP during that period is offset by a solid 18.2 percent line drive rate and 45.5 percent hard contact rate. Coors Field has also been his domain during his career, as he's slashed .393/.413/.574 with five doubles, two homers and 12 RBI over 61 at-bats.

Jay Bruce, NYM vs. MIA ($7,600): Marlins starter Odrisamer Despaigne makes his 2017 debut Saturday and surrendered a .369 wOBA and 33.3 percent hard contact rate to lefty bats last season. He's also given up two homers to Bruce in just four career encounters and the Mets slugger checks in with a .342 batting average, eight homers, .488 wOBA and 46.7 percent hard contact rate versus right-handed pitching.

Marcell Ozuna, MIA at NYM ($6,600): Ozuna makes for an appealing play on the other side of the Marlins-Mets matchup against Robert Gsellman, who's allowed a .389 wOBA and 34.5 percent hard contact to righty hitters. Ozuna hits for better average against southpaws but for more power against righties, having hit seven of his eight homers this season against that handedness. He also boasts a .390 wOBA and 47.8 percent hard contact rate versus that handedness (including 48.8 percent on the road), and the Mets bullpen has yielded a .378 wOBA and 11 homers to righty bats.

UTILITY

Nelson Cruz, SEA vs. TEX ($8,000): Cruz against a lefty is usually a no-brainer, and even more so against Martin Perez, who he's bashed for a .500 batting average and three homers over 14 career plate appearances. The Mariners slugger has a .344 batting average and .421 wOBA versus left-handed pitching, along with a 25.0 percent line drive rate and 50.0 percent hard contact rate against that handedness at Safeco Field. Perez has given up a .396 wOBA to the 27 right-handed bats he's faced on the road, and the Rangers' bullpen has allowed a .334 wOBA to righty bats.

Jim Adduci, DET at OAK ($4,800): Only Miguel Sano has made more hard contact than Adduci over the last week, as he's sporting a massive 64.7 percent figure in that category over that span. He also has an impressive 31.3 percent line drive rate during that stretch and has a .387 wOBA and 64.0 percent hard contact rate versus righties overall. A's starter Jesse Hahn has been very effective overall but may be benefitting from a bit of good fortune against lefty bats, particularly at home, as evidenced by the 8.68 xFIP and 55.6 percent hard contact rate he's yielded there to that handedness. The A's bullpen isn't great shakes against left-handed hitting either, giving up a .333 wOBA and five homers to that handedness.
