DraftKings MLB: Monday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

Pitcher

Carlos Martinez, STL at MIA ($9,800): Martinez has always kept his ground-ball rate near 50 percent and will now take on the Marlins, who hold the second highest ground-ball percentage. Martinez has had a bit of an issue with walks in 2017 but could find himself ahead in more counts than usual, as the Marlins walk just six percent of the time against righties.

Blake Snell, TB vs. KC ($7,400): Kansas City's wOBA against lefties (.254) is 22 points lower than the next closest team. They also hold the third lowest ISO in the league against southpaws (.079), while striking out at a 23 percent clip. Snell feels like the perfect matchup to get value out of the Royals, as he is an unspectacular starter who is likely to be overlooked in favor of more solid options.

Catcher

Gary Sanchez, NYY at CIN ($4,800): Sanchez struggled in five games this season before suffering a biceps injury but will look to recapture his offensive dominance against Rookie Davis, who has allowed a .576 slugging percentage to righties over 8.1 innings. Sanchez kept an ISO over .350 against both sides of the platoon as a rookie, notching a hard contact rate of 40 percent against same-handed pitchers.

First Base

Cody Bellinger, LAD vs. PIT ($3,600):Trevor Williams will make the start in favor of the injured Jameson Taillon after allowing eight runs (seven earned) in just 11.2 innings out of the bullpen. Williams didn't fair any better in his 12.2 innings with the big club last year, notching a 7.82 ERA over that span. Bellinger's price should be taken advantage of as often as possible for as long as it holds. He has tallied a stunning .533 ISO against righties over 30 at-bats.

Second Base

Jedd Gyorko, STL at MIA ($3,800):Adam Conley doesn't strike out many batters and gives up too many walks and homers. Those three ingredients could make a nice matchup for someone like Gyorko, who will enter the contest having notched a .200 ISO and a 42 percent hard contact rate against southpaws.

Third Base

Anthony Rendon, WAS at BAL ($4,400):Kevin Gausman's ERA grew after he was ejected in the second inning of his last start for hitting Xander Bogaerts (with a curveball), but one run doesn't quite explain the 7.55 ERA he has logged this year. Rendon should perform well in this matchup due to his 45 percent fly ball rate and 2.3 RAA against the slider, a pitch Gausman throws 21 percent of the time.

Shortstop

Francisco Lindor, CLE at TOR ($4,600): Lindor's breakout season seems to be in full swing, with the 23-year-old tallying a .297 ISO over 118 at-bats. Marcus Stroman is known for his ground-ball tendencies, but that may work against him here, as Lindor hits the ball in the air at a 46 percent clip.

Outfield

Mike Trout, LAA at OAK ($5,300): Known for his tremendous ground-ball rates, Kendall Graveman is essentially even in his GB/FB ratio over five starts. It is also worth noting that he has allowed a hard contact rate of 47 percent to righties, a mark that is nearly 20 points higher than his career average. Trout, who is expected to return to the lineup after missing time with a hamstring injury, has registered a .372 ISO against righty pitching.

Khris Davis, OAK vs. LAA ($3,800): Turning to the other dugout, we see that Davis has kept a .354 ISO against right-handers over 82 at-bats. Ricky Nolasco has surrendered a whopping six homers to same-handed hitters over 16.2 innings, while also allowing a 38 percent hard contact rate.

Adam Duvall, CIN vs. NYY ($4,000): Duvall has some distinct advantages heading into the matchup against Masahiro Tanaka, as he will pit his 47 percent fly ball rate against Tanaka's ground-ball tendencies. Duvall also holds a 3.5 RAA against the slider, a pitch Tanaka throws 22 percent of the time.
