FanDuel MLB: Friday Value Plays

FanDuel MLB: Friday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

PITCHER

Max Scherzer, WAS vs. SDP ($11,800): Scherzer is averaging 44.3 points per start and with the Padres in town, that is the floor I expect out of him. The Padres are a bottom-five team in wOBA and are second worst in K% against righties this season. Another reason I don't mind paying up for Scherzer is that the pitching matchup in Colorado (Carlos Martinez/Antonio Senzatela) doesn't necessitate a stack of either team.

CATCHER

Juan Centeno, HOU vs. BAL ($2,500): The former Twin has made quite a splash in just two starts this season and has another good matchup against Kevin Gausman. Being in the Twin Cities, I was aware of Centeno prior to this season, so when I saw him appear as a cheap catching option for the Astros, I was all over him. Gausman was a quality pitcher prior to this season, but he has not resembled that same form in 2017. Until he puts a couple solid starts together, he remains a good guy to target against.

FIRST BASE

Jose Abreu, CHW vs. DET ($4,000):Jose Abreu might be the hottest hitter in the league right now. Abreu has recorded 14 hits in his past six games, three of which were homers. He gets a great matchup Friday against Matthew Boyd, who has always struggled with righties. Abreu's recent surge has pushed his wOBA up to 13th in the majors against righties this season at .492. With all the strong righties in the White Sox lineup, they are certainly a candidate for stacking.

SECOND BASE

Devon Travis, TOR vs. TEX ($3,300):A.J. Griffin takes the mound for the Rangers and he'll hope to do a lot better than his previous start when he was destroyed by the Tigers. While I don't expect a nine-run outburst from the Blue Jays, I do expect them to put up multiple runs against Griffin. Travis started the season extremely slow, but he's been on a tear for the past couple weeks. He's averaging 8.2 fantasy points per game this season, but in his past eight games, that number is 17.6.

SHORTSTOP

Eric Sogard, MIL vs. AZ ($2,600): If you are paying up for Scherzer, you'll need to find value somewhere in your lineup and this looks like a good spot. Sogard has only played a handful of games this season, but he's made a big impact. Sogard is averaging 19.6 fantasy points per start this season, a number which is much larger than the one shown on his card on FanDuel, because they use a per-game average and Sogard has subbed in several times this season. Nonetheless, Sogard should get the nod here against the righty Zack Godley.

THIRD BASE

Jake Lamb, AZ at SD ($4,000): I was all over Lamb on Thursday because he was on fire heading into the game and facing a vulnerable righty. He went 0-for-4 last night, but even with the goose egg from Thursday included, Lamb is averaging 19.4 fantasy points per game over his past 12.

OUTFIELD

Avisail Garcia, CHW vs. DET ($3,000): I mentioned a White Sox stack earlier, and with Garcia at a reduced price, it should make it easier to squeeze multiple White Sox batters into your lineup. Garcia has hit well all season, and although he hit a rough patch earlier this week, we can attribute that to an illness. He should be back at 100% for his matchup against lefty Matthew Boyd and if so, he's in line for a big game. Garcia is just four spots back of Jose Abreu in the wOBA-versus-righties ranking at .471.

Nomar Mazara, TEX at TOR ($3,300): Mike Bolsinger takes the hill for the Blue Jays, and if the Rangers had shown any consistency this season, they would be a good stacking option as well, but as it stands, there are only a couple guys I can trust. Mazara is one of those guys as he's produced at a fairly high level for most of the season. He's averaging 10.7 fantasy points per game and leads the Rangers in wOBA versus righties at .370.

Michael Conforto, NYM at PIT ($4,500): Not long ago, Jay Bruce was my go to lefty against right handed pitching, but Conforto has supplanted Bruce on my list over the past couple weeks. Conforto is averaging 14.2 fantasy points per game this season, but over his past 10 games, that number is 20.9. Conforto has a .460 wOBA against righties this season, which is good for seventh in the majors.
