DraftKings MLB: Sunday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

PITCHER

Joe Ross, WAS vs. SD ($7,800): It's unfortunate that Ross put up 29 fantasy points in his last outing against the Mariners, as he could be heavily owned in the main slate, but there is enough to like in the matchup against the Padres to override that concern. Aside from the obvious salary relief, we should note that Ross has notched a 3.2 RAA with his slider, a pitch he throws 37 percent of the time. San Diego is a bottom-10 team against the slide piece, and holds the third-lowest wOBA in the league against right-handed pitchers.

Matt Shoemaker, LAA at MIA ($9,400): Shoemaker offers a safe floor in the matchup against the Marlins, having scored over 24 fantasy points in each of his last three starts. Meanwhile, Miami holds the third-lowest ISO in the league against right-handed pitchers, and has tallied a bottom-10 RAA against the slider, a pitch Shoemaker throws 20 percent of the time.

CATCHER

Jett Bandy, MIL vs. ARI ($3,200): Bandy's .667 ISO against left-handed pitchers in 12 at-bats this season is too good to be true, but the 27-year-old is no stranger to bombing southpaws, having notched a .220 ISO over 34 games in 2016. On the mound will be Patrick Corbin, who has allowed a .508 slugging percentage and a 37 percent hard contact rate against righties.

FIRST BASE

Paul Goldschmidt, ARI at MIL ($5,400): It's a bit odd that Jimmy Nelson relies so heavily on his fastball, as it has returned a minus-3.3 RAA this season. Goldschmidt has been one of the best hitters in the league against fastballs in 2017, while notching a .300 ISO against right-handed pitchers.

SECOND BASE

Cesar Hernandez, PHI vs. CIN ($3,900):Scott Feldman has had his moments in 2017, but he still throws a fastball that registers as significantly below average. Hernandez hasn't shown much power against righty hurlers, but he does sport a .357 wOBA, along with a 4.3 RAA against the fastball.

THIRD BASE

Mike Moustakas, KC at CLE ($3,700): Moustakas should be able to keep his strong season rolling against Josh Tomlin, whose fastball has been worth minus-4.6 RAA. He has also surrendered a 39 percent hard contact rate to left-handed hitters. Moustakas has notched a .277 ISO against right-handed pitching, and he hits the ball in the air 46 percent of the time, which could help him exploit Tomlin's ground-ball tendencies.

SHORTSTOP

Xander Bogaerts, BOS vs. SEA ($4,900):Christian Bergman has been absolutely hammered by righties this season, allowing a .723 slugging percentage over 11.2 innings. Bogaerts has hit just one home run, but he has provided plenty of value against righties, notching a .384 wOBA in 145 at-bats.

OUTFIELD

Bryce Harper, WAS vs. SD ($5,500):Jhoulys Chacin's excellent slider has made him a tough task for righties, but lefties are slugging .613 off the 29-year-old, thanks in part to a fastball that comes in at minus-6.3 RAA. Harper has tallied a 17.8 RAA against the fastball, while slashing .323/.449/.717 over 127 at-bats against right-handed pitching.

Avisail Garcia, CWS vs. DET ($4,600):Jordan Zimmermann has one of the least valuable fastballs in the league this season according to RAA, and he has allowed a 35 percent hard contact rate against right-handed-hitters. Garcia carries a 9.2 RAA against the heater, and has shown solid power against righties, as evidenced by his .229 ISO over 131 at-bats.

Corey Dickerson, TB at MIN ($4,600):Kyle Gibson has been hit hard by both sides of the platoon this season, which has resulted in a stunning 8.62 ERA over seven starts. Dickerson has registered a 9.6 RAA against the fastball this year, while punishing his opposite hand to the tune of a .321 ISO over 134 at-bats.
