Yahoo DFS Baseball: Tuesday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

America's pastime will be heavily featured on the nation's 241st birthday, with all 30 teams scheduled to be in action throughout the day. Those looking to participate in Tuesday's slate will have to be up early, as action begins at 11:05 AM Eastern. The players below are all positioned to outperform their prices and provide strong value based on their recent form and opposition.

PITCHER

Corey Kluber, CLE vs. SD ($56): Kluber has been absolutely dominant over his past three starts, posting a 36:3 K:BB ratio while limiting opponents to one earned run on nine hits in 24 innings. Each of the lineups he dominated in that stretch (Texas, Minnesota and Baltimore) score at least .87 more runs per game than San Diego's last-place mark of 3.61 while posting fewer strikeouts than the Padres' 9.40. With Clayton Kershaw battling the fifth-ranked Arizona offense, Kluber's the leading candidate to finish as the day's top scorer.

Jameson Taillon, PIT at PHI ($42): Taillon has been strong in four starts since returning from testicular cancer surgery, posting a 2.42 ERA in 22.1 innings. That form is likely to carry over against an overmatched Phillies lineup that ranks ahead of only the Padres with 3.90 runs per game. Philadelphia's above average propensity to whiff should also help Taillon rack up plenty of strikeouts given his 20.5 percent strikeout rate.

CATCHER

Tony Wolters, COL vs. CIN ($10): Reds righty Homer Bailey has been atrocious in his first two starts, with a combined 14 runs allowed in 4.2 innings. Those struggles would make him an appealing option to stack against for any lineup, so this matchup at the league's most hitter-friendly venue is close to ideal for Rockies sluggers. Wolters can still be had for much cheaper than most of his teammates despite getting on base in each of his past six games, making him a strong choice regardless of lineup strategy. Bailey has allowed a .021 higher career wOBA to left-handed hitters like Wolters, so staying hot should be easy for the catcher here.

FIRST BASE

Mike Napoli, TEX vs. BOS ($12): Napoli's all-or-nothing approach at the plate always makes him a risky play, but this home matchup with southpaw David Price raises his chances of finding success. Five of Napoli's 16 homers have come in his 60 plate appearances against lefties, while Price has allowed 1.54 HR/9 in his first seven starts. Globe Life Park's 1.07 park factor and 1.08 home run park will factor also work in Napoli's favor as he looks for his third homer in four games.

SECOND BASE

Yolmer Sanchez, CWS at OAK ($7): Sanchez has easily outplayed his $7 valuation with an average of 8.4 fantasy points per game in his past six, and should be able to add to that success in this favorable matchup. The switch-hitting second baseman has a .031 higher wOBA from the left side, which is where he'll be hitting from against rookie righty Daniel Gossett. With an equivalent ERA and K/9 (5.57) through four starts, Gossett is another strong option to stack against.

THIRD BASE

Eugenio Suarez, CIN at COL ($15): Road hitters are also capable of capitalizing on Coors Field's league-leading 1.35 park factor, and Suarez's proficiency against lefties makes him a steal at $15 with Kyle Freeland taking the mound for the Rockies. Suarez owns a .398 wOBA against southpaws, while the rookie starter's .337 mark allowed to right-handed hitters is nothing to write home about.

SHORTSTOP

Orlando Arcia, MIL vs. BAL ($15): Arcia has been on a tear of late, going 22-for-50 with four homers and five doubles since June 17. That recent success makes the 22-year-old shortstop dangerous against Ubaldo Jimenez, who has posted a 6.48 ERA and 1.48 WHIP through 16 appearances (11 starts). Arcia'a .334 season wOBA against right-handed pitchers is .050 better than his mark facing southpaws, so this righty-on-righty matchup is actually his more effective split.

OUTFIELD

Charlie Blackmon, COL vs. CIN ($24): Colorado's leadoff man has already scored 65 runs while driving in 58 more, and he'll have an excellent opportunity to add to both totals against Bailey, who comes in with a 27.00 ERA. Blackmon's .394 wOBA against righties jumps to .521 in 98 Coors Field plate appearances, making him the toughest out in this potent lineup for pitchers from that side.

Kole Calhoun, LAA at MIN ($18): A Target Field date with Kyle Gibson is just what the doctor ordered for the slumping Calhoun. The ineffective right-hander has surrendered a .393 wOBA to left-handed hitters while posting a 6.11 ERA and 1.78 WHIP. Calhoun owns a .331 career wOBA against righties, and Target Field's third-ranked 1.20 park factor should amplify his abilities.

Matt Joyce, OAK vs. CWS ($16):James Shields' .402 wOBA allowed to left-handed batters isn't surprising considering he allowed no worse than a .370 mark in each of the previous two seasons. Joyce is Oakland's most dangerous hitter from the left side, having launched all 10 of his homers this season against righties while mustering a .347 career wOBA facing them.
