DraftKings MLB: Sunday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

PITCHER

Chris Archer, TB vs. BOS ($10,700): Any discussion regarding Archer's DFS viability has to begin with his slider, a pitch he has thrown 46 percent of the time this season. The Red Sox have registered a minus-11.0 RAA against the offering, and also hold the sixth-lowest ISO against right-handed pitching (.151).

Trevor Cahill, SD at PHI ($7,700): Longtime DFS players may find it odd to think of Cahill as an asset, but the 29-year-old's sub-3.00 ERA and 13 percent swinging strike rate make him something of a steal at under $8,000. The Phillies have tallied the third-lowest wOBA against right-handers this season (.298) to go along with a 24 percent strikeout rate.

CATCHER

Wilson Ramos, TB vs. BOS ($3,500): It's hard to glean much from Ramos by looking at the 29 at-bats he has since returning from the disabled list, but it may be that his strong start against lefties is a continuation of his 2016 season, when he had a .301 ISO over 103 at-bats. David Price has struggled against his opposite hand after returning from his own injury, and he comes in with a 1.7 HR/9 and 37 percent hard contact rate allowed in 37.2 innings.

FIRST BASE

Kennys Vargas, MIN vs. BAL ($3,600):Joe Mauer was placed on the 10-day disabled list Friday due to back spasms, giving us the opportunity to save some money with a powerful option against a weak opponent. Vargas has logged a .210 ISO over 119 at-bats against righties this season, while Ubaldo Jimenez has surrendered a .674 slugging percentage to left-handed hitters over 32.2 innings.

SECOND BASE

DJ LeMahieu, COL vs. CWS ($4,400): We saw the best of Carlos Rodon in his start against the A's on Monday, but it seems likely that his 18 percent walk rate will work against him at Coors Field. LeMahieu brings a nice skill set into the matchup, as he has struck out just eight percent of the time against left-handers, while tallying a .545 slugging percentage over 88 at-bats.

THIRD BASE

Todd Frazier, CWS at COL ($4,100): Frazier will occupy the other dugout against Kyle Freeland, whose below-average strikeout and walk rates have resulted in a 5.20 xFIP against right-handed hitting. Meanwhile, Fraizer has a .303 ISO and a 40 percent hard contact rate against lefties this season.

SHORTSTOP

Asdrubal Cabrera, NYM at STL ($3,400): Cabrera has been a better overall hitter against lefties this year, but he has done more damage against righties, as evidenced by his .172 ISO and 35 percent hard contact rate. Opposing starter Lance Lynn has struggled mightily against lefties, allowing 11 home runs in just 42.1 innings to go along with a 13 percent walk rate.

OUTFIELD

Andrew McCutchen, PIT at CHC ($4,700): It's difficult to pass on McCutchen against lefties due to the .371 ISO and .473 wOBA he has registered over 62 at-bats. Jon Lester has thrown the ball well this season, but he carries a .452 slugging percentage against righties in 80 innings.

Trey Mancini, BAL at MIN ($4,100): Mancini has raked against right-handed pitching over 165 at-bats this season, logging a .261 ISO and a .411 wOBA. Meanwhile, opposing starter Kyle Gibson has a faired slightly better against same-handed hitters this year, but he has still allowed a .375 wOBA through 37.2 innings.

Nomar Mazara, TEX vs. LAA ($4,400): Mazara has upped his power game after a mediocre rookie season in 2016, notching a .213 ISO over 240 at-bats against righties. Meanwhile, JC Ramirez has been hammered by lefties, allowing a .596 slugging percentage and 46 percent hard contact rate in 46 innings.
