FanDuel MLB: Wednesday Value Plays

FanDuel MLB: Wednesday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

Pitcher

Dallas Keuchel, HOU vs. TAM ($9,600): Maybe it's lazy to call the slate's top-priced pitcher a value play. But Keuchel's price remains down from what it was pre-injury based nearly all on his last outing, which I think will lead to lower than normal ownership. He has a 1.04 ERA and 25.4 percent strikeout rate at home, and the Rays don't fair well against southpaws, ranking 22nd in the league with a .307 wOBA. Tampa Bay as a team adds just a 92 wRC+, .154 ISO and 26.0 strikeout percentage.

Catcher

Francisco Cervelli, PIT vs. CIN ($2,500): Cervelli has started three straight games, so there could be some concern he doesn't start Wednesday. Assuming he's behind he dish, he brings a .337 wOBA and 108 wRC+ against righties, third among Pirate regulars, into a matchup with a struggling Robert Stephenson — who has a 10.34 road ERA, where he allows a .499 wOBA to right-handed bats.

First Base

Brandon Belt, SFG vs. OAK ($3,400): There's plenty of risk here with Belt producing a goose egg. But he has a team-leading .367 wOBA and 129 wRC+, numbers that slightly rise at home (.372/133) and has an inviting matchup with a hittable Daniel Gossett. Gossett sports a 5.84 road ERA, where he's allowing opposite-handed bats a .370 wOBA.

Second Base

Daniel Murphy, WAS at MIA ($3,600): I like both Murphy and Anthony Rendon for the same price in this matchup with Vance Worley, who has a 6.74 ERA while allowing an identical .386 wOBA to both righties and lefties. Murphy gets the nod here as a bit of a contrarian play, as he snapped an 0-for-11 skid Tuesday with a 1-for-4 outing. Murphy carries a .395 wOBA and 142 wRC+ against righties, and is also 12-of-22 in his career against Worley.

Third Base

Travis Shaw, MIL at STL ($3,600): Shaw has been studly at home against opposite-handed pitchers, owning a .404 wOBA, 146 wRC+ and .281 ISO. Cardinals starter Luke Weaver allowed four runs and five hits in his only start of the season, lasting five innings against Arizona

Shortstop

Corey Seager, LAD at ATL (3,600): Seager rode a six-game hitting streak into Tuesday, a stretch where he'd gone 11-for-25 with five extra-base hits. He's modestly priced at a position that continues to have limited options in a juicy matchup with Julio Teheran. Teheran has a 7.05 home ERA, where he's allowing lefties to post a .415 wOBA and .996 OPS. Seager took Teheran deep in their last meeting on July 22, and in limited matchups (nine at-bats), all three of Seager's hits against Teheran have cleared the fence.

Outfield

Charlie Blackmon, COL vs. NYM ($4,700): Wednesday's matchup appears too good to pass up for Blackmon regardless of his price. He sports an obscene .532 wOBA, 215 wRC+, 1.331 OPS and .466 ISO at home against right-handers. The Mets will hope to slow that down by trotting out rookie Chris Flexen, who hadn't pitched above Double-A prior to last week. He allowed three runs, five hits and four walks to the Padres in his big-league debut, and the only concern here could be that Blackmon only sees Flexen once before he's removed from the start.

Derek Fisher, HOU vs. TAM ($2,800): Fisher has hit in the leadoff spot in four of the last five games with George Springer on the DL, and he has a .471 wOBA and 204 wRC+ against righties (albeit over just 32 at-bats). He'll face Austin Pruitt, who has a 7.25 road ERA with a .386 wOBA allowed to same-handed bats.

Howie Kendrick, WAS at MIA ($2,600): This play will come down to the Nationals' lineup as much as anything. Kendrick is playing regularly since being acquired, but has hit first, second and sixth in three starts. He'd carry much more appeal hitting in front of the Nats' big bats against the aforementioned Worley. Kendrick enjoys Marlins Park, hitting 16-of-36 there since 2014, and with a .345 wOBA and 111 wRC+ against righties, he has a clear shot to outproduce his price Wednesday.
