DraftKings MLB: Monday Picks

DraftKings MLB: Monday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

Pitcher

Aaron Nola, PHI vs. ATL ($10,200): Nola is coming off back-to-back disappointing performances, but should be able to use his curveball (8.6 RAA) to right the ship against the Braves, who rate as a bottom-10 team against the pitch. Atlanta has had trouble against righties this season, notching just a .311 wOBA.

Jeff Samardzija, SF at SD ($9,000): Samardzija has fallen short of returning value more often than not this month, but his superb 170:26 K/BB ratio in 167.2 innings should serve him well against the Padres, who strike out a quarter of the time against righties while holding a 7.5 percent walk rate. It is also worth noting that San Diego holds the third lowest RAA in the league against the slider, a pitch The Shark throws at a 23.4 percent clip.

Catcher

Mike Zunino, SEA at BAL ($3,400): Zunino is always a source of cheap power, as he has logged an ISO well above .200 from both sides of the platoon. He should get a chance to put that power on display against Chris Tillman, who has allowed a .608 slugging percentage and a 39 percent hard contact rate against righty hitters over 45 innings.

First Base

Mark Reynolds, COL vs. DET ($4,900): Reynolds has tallied an impressive 25.8 RAA against the fastball this season, which should match up well against Jordan Zimmermann, whose heater has registered a -23.5 RAA. Reynolds has thrived against righty pitching, notching a .259 ISO over 321 at-bats.

Second Base

Jonathan Schoop, BAL vs. SEA ($4,600): Schoop has pummeled left-handed pitching to the tune of a .293 ISO over 123 at-bats this season. Meanwhile, opposition starter Marco Gonzales has allowed a .667 slugging percentage to go along with a .440 wOBA in 16.1 innings against righties with the big club.

Third Base

Ryon Healy, OAK at LAA ($3,700): Healy is one of a few powerful right-handed bats in the A's lineup, having secured a .269 ISO and a .409 wOBA against lefties in 104 at-bats. Andrew Heaney has been utterly unable to solve right-handers since his return from the disabled list, as he has allowed seven homers through eight innings.

Shortstop

Andrelton Simmons, LAA vs. OAK ($3,700):Daniel Gossett owns a fastball that has registered a -9.3 RAA in 59 innings this season. He has also allowed a .562 slugging percentage to right-handed hitters. There aren't many appealing righty-against-righty matchups on the Angels, but DFS players can find a cost-effective option in Simmons, who has notched a .166 ISO and a 31 percent hard contact rate against same-handed pitchers.

Outfield

Corey Dickerson, TB at KC ($4,600):Ian Kennedy has had trouble keeping the ball in the park against lefties, as evidenced by the 2.2 HR/9 mark he has tallied across 58.1 innings. Dickerson's power has dipped a bit in August, but he has still tallied a .235 ISO and a 37 percent hard contact rate against righties over 366 at-bats.

Rhys Hoskins, PHI vs. ATL ($4,700): What can be said about Hoskins that hasn't been screamed by elated owners who picked him up off the waiver wire in seasonal leagues? The rookie has hit an absurd 11 home runs in 18 games, notching a 14.5 percent walk rate over that span. Hoskins will look to extend his run of dominance against Lucas Sims, who has surrendered a .535 slugging percentage in 10.1 innings on the road in 2017.

Andrew McCutchen, PIT at CHC ($3,700): McCutchen has had a dreadful month of August, but it's hard to ignore his .402 ISO and .456 wOBA against lefties at this price. Mike Montgomery has walked 12.5 percent of the right-handed batters he has faced this season while allowing a 33 percent hard contact rate.
