Moving to tight end
February 23, 2018
A Texas spokesperson confirmed Cummins, a defensive end who was redshirted during the 2017 campaign, will move to tight end in 2018, Jeff Howe of 247Sports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The Longhorns were eager to add another body to the tight-end group after losing Kendall Moore to graduation and Cade Brewer (knee) to an injury, so Cummins will move to the other side of the ball this spring to provide depth. Though incumbent starter Andrew Beck will return as a fifth-year senior in 2018, he has his own problematic injury history and will likely be limited to some extent in the spring, opening up extra reps for Cummins and another unproven commodity in redshirt freshman Reese Leitao. It's unknown when Brewer will be back to full strength following a November ACL injury, but if Brewer is sidelined for the start of the season, Cummins could step in as Beck's top backup.
