What should have been Thompson's third dominant season in a row was wrecked by a broken leg he in Toledo's fifth game, but he's back with the Rockets to give it another try in 2018. While Thompson's skill is not in question – his average of 12.8 yards per target in the last three years is remarkable – there could be cause for leeriness between his return from the injury and the loss of star quarterback Logan Woodside. Toledo has done a superb job of replacing its departing stars year to year, but the replacement quarterback options are an almost completely blank slate.

  2. Cody Thompson 2016 Preseason Outlook
Thompson (6-1, 201) specialized as a deep threat for Toledo in 2015, generally utilized as the team's third wideout behind Corey Jones and Alonzo Russell. Thompson made clear that he was actually the best receiver on the roster, however, and in 2016 he should see his target count adjust accordingly. Russell is in the NFL, so Thompson was a lock to see a big target increase regardless of whether Toledo took notice of his skills. After catching 37 passes for 825 yards and five TDs in 12 games last year, a 1,000-yard, 10-TD season should safely be within Thompson's reach this year.
  3. Cody Thompson 2017 Preseason Outlook
Thompson doesn't get enough recognition for it, but he's been incredibly efficient and explosive the last two years, over which he's totaled 101 catches for 2,094 yards and 16 touchdowns. That included a 2016 season where he turned 101 targets into 1,269 yards and 11 touchdowns, and something even better should be in store for 2017. Fellow wideout Corey Jones graduated after seeing 87 targets last year, as did touchdown hog Michael Roberts (16 scores), so there should be considerably more opportunity. With 45-touchdown quarterback Logan Woodside back, it's all locked in.
