ANALYSIS
With Massachusetts trailing 42-0 late in the second quarter, coach Walt Bell pulled the plug on Curtis and went with Randall West under center. Though the quarterback change didn't affect the end result, West (17 for 29 for 172 yards, one touchdown and one interception) turned in the far better line than Curtis. Through three outings, Curtis has completed just 46.9 percent of his passes for a weak 4.5 yards per attempt and has tossed four interceptions. He could be on the outs for the starting job when Massachusetts returns from a Week 8 bye to play Connecticut on Oct. 26.
