DraftKings NHL: Sunday Picks

DraftKings NHL: Sunday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings NHL series.

If you're a sports fan, there's a good chance your focus will be on the NFL playoffs this weekend. However, if you can pull yourself away from the pigskin for a moment, there are six NHL games Sunday. That gives you the opportunity to fit a little daily fantasy hockey into your day. Besides, you don't necessarily need to watch the games to play fantasy hockey...

GOALIE

Devan Dubnyk, MIN at ANA ($7,700): The Wild started Darcy Kuemper on Saturday, leaving Dubnyk available for Sunday's game with the Ducks. Dubnyk still leads the league in GAA (1.82) and save percentage (.939), so clearly his stats speak for themselves. Anaheim also has a middle-of-the-road offense (2.68 goals per game), so it's not a terribly tough matchup for him, either.

CENTER

Alexander Wennberg, CLM vs. PHI ($5,700): The Flyers have allowed 3.03 goals per game, and expected starter Steve Mason has a 2.82 GAA and a .903 save percentage. Wennberg has been playing well recently, notching nine points in his last 10 games. Most of that admittedly comes from assists, but the Jackets are third in goals per game, so he could have a few opportunities to pick up a helper here.

Tyler Johnson, TAM vs. PIT ($5,400):Marc-Andre Fleury is still expected to be tending goal for the Penguins on Sunday. In addition to the fact he is dealing with an illness, he has a 3.12 GAA and a .909 save percentage. Johnson has 12 power-play points, and the Penguins rank 20th in penalty-kill percentage.

WING

Patric Hornqvist, PIT at TAM ($6,500): Now let's get to the flipside of that Penguins/Lightning matchup. Pittsburgh has been off for a week, so you may need a little refresher on Hornqvist. He's put 117 shots on goal in 32 games and has nine power-play points. The Lightning have been giving up more goals recently as Andrei Vasilevskiy has regressed, including giving up four on Friday to the Flyers. Hornqvist is on the pricier side but is worth it in this matchup.

Zach Parise, MIN at ANA ($6,200): Anaheim goalie John Gibson has a decidedly mediocre .913 save percentage. Parise notched a power-play goal Saturday, giving him eight goals on the season and six power-play points. Bearing in mind that he has only played in 29 games, that's not bad, and Parise is averaging 3.3 fantasy points per game. The Ducks have the 16th-ranked penalty kill, so Parise could find some opportunity there.

Mark Stone, OTT vs. EDM ($5,600): The Oilers played Saturday, which means Cam Talbot will have to play on back-to-back nights, or Jonas Gustavsson (.893 save percentage) will be in net. Stone has 28 points in 37 games, including 10 power-play points. He's averaging 3:15 with the extra man, and Edmonton has the 18th-ranked penalty kill, so that's a point in Stone's favor.

DEFENSE

Oscar Klefbom, EDM at OTT ($4,500): The Senators played Saturday as well, and Ottawa may have no choice but to play Mike Condon on back-to-back nights, with both Craig Anderson and Andrew Hammond unavailable. Klefbom is averaging 2.7 fantasy points per game, and the Senators are 30th in Opponent Rank vs. Position, so this is looking like a great matchup for Klefbom. He's taken 99 shots in 41 games, which is an impressive number for a defenseman.

Mattias Ekholm, NAS at CHI ($3,800): Ekholm's minutes are way up this season (he's averaging 23:41 per game), but he only has one goal thanks to an unusually low 1.8 shooting percentage. Chicago gives up quite a few shots (31.2 per game on average), which could help Ekholm out. Meanwhile, he's blocked 65 shots in 39 games, so he can help on both ends of the ice. Ekholm is also quite cheap, so he could provide some real bang for your buck and allow you to spend up in other areas.
