DraftKings NHL: Monday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings NHL series.

GOALIE

Frederik Andersen, TOR vs. LA ($8,100): Other than Ben Bishop ($8,500) against the Sens, this matchup seems like the surest bet. It'll take a Herculean offensive effort by the Kings to even challenge the Leafs, who are providing Andersen tons of goal support and making his job very easy so far. It also looks like it'll take a little longer for the Kings offense, which has scored zero power-play goals so far, to get their act together.

CENTER

Auston Matthews, TOR vs. LA ($8,100): Matthews is the best storyline of the season so far, scoring 10 goals in six games, which would put him on pace to score 50 in… 30 games?! Gretzky did it in 39, so it's doable, and Matthews has been extraordinarily efficient, scoring on half of his shots. Jack Campbell or Peter Budaj will draw the short straw and the Leafs get last change on home ice.

Dylan Larkin, DET at MON ($6,400):Carey Price may still be out with illness so that's good news for the Wings, who are still looking for their first win of the season. Their poor record has overshadowed Larkin's terrific start with five points in five games and giving the team strong play at both ends. The Habs like to play fast and so do the Wings, so it could be a high-scoring affair.

WING

Mitch Marner, TOR vs. LA ($6,700): He has the most upside among wingers in the $6,000 range, playing against a team with two backups and a defense that still leans too much on one player. The shifty playmaker is a big reason why the Leafs power play has been so devastating and the Kings might be a tired bunch with their fourth straight road game.

Zach Parise, MIN at NSH ($5,600): He's having a bit of a renaissance season with five points in four games, including back-to-back two-assist performances. He hasn't looked this good in a few years and there's shades of the top-line 30-goal scorer he once was. Linemates Mikael Granlund and Mikko Koivu are starting to score, too, so the points might start piling up.

Mikael Granlund, MIN at NSH ($4,800): He scored a goal and an assist Saturday against Carolina, busting a three-game slump to start the season. It's still a mystery what Granlund's offensive ceiling is, but at the very least he's good for 60-70 points. He's been quite good against the Preds in his career, including last season when he scored seven points in five games.

DEFENSE

Morgan Rielly, TOR vs. LA ($6,000):John Klingberg ($6,500) is the only other defenseman in the top tier, but with the way Rielly has been scoring he's obviously the better deal. If Rielly keeps this up he's going to be in the conversation for the Norris. The Kings have some big names but none are playing up to the billing, and their power play has been a huge bust so far.

Filip Hronek, DET at MON ($3,500): He could provide a lot of value as Detroit's best scorer on defense if Dennis Cholowski is out of the lineup. Hronek was minus-3 last game against the Bruins but scored a goal on six shots while playing over 22 minutes. He has a lot of upside and the Habs don't have any hulking forwards he has to worry about on the defensive side of the puck.
