DraftKings NHL: Saturday Picks

DraftKings NHL: Saturday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings NHL series.

Saturday only has one college football game of note, so why not focus your attention on the NHL? There are eight games taking place Saturday evening, which gives you a fair amount of options for your daily fantasy lineup. Here are some of the players that intrigue me the most.

GOALIE

Frederik Andersen, TOR at BOS ($8,200): Andersen is having a career year. The Dane has posted a 2.32 GAA and .931 save percentage through 23 games. Meanwhile, the Bruins have struggled offensively, as they've only scored 2.57 goals per contest. All the injuries they're dealing with certainly don't help.

CENTER

Aleksander Barkov, FLA vs. NYR ($6,800): Barkov is building off his breakout campaign last season, when he notched 27 goals and 78 points. The big Finn has 26 points in 27 games. As for the Rangers, they've struggled on the road to start the year. They have a 4.15 GAA and have allowed 35.5 shots on net per contest in away games.

Nick Schmaltz, ARI vs. SAN ($4,500): The Coyotes have done their best to make Schmaltz feel at home since trading for him. They've made him their first-line center, and the former Blackhawk has started 66.7 percent of his shifts in the offensive zone, highest on the team. The Sharks, who have a 3.03 GAA, will be on the road for their second game of a back-to-back, so they'll likely be worse defensively than normal.

WING

Phil Kessel, PIT at OTT ($6,200): This matchup is pretty much perfect for Kessel. He's great offensively, but he especially excels on the power play. This year, he has 12 power-play points, and last year he had a whopping 42. The Senators have the league's highest GAA (4.10), but they also have the league's worst penalty kill. That makes Kessel worth this price.

Jimmy Vesey, NYR at FLA ($4,100): Vesey is en route to a career year, as he has nine goals and 14 points through 28 games. The fact he's averaged 17:07 in ice time, almost a three-minute increase on last season, helps. Florida has a 3.48 GAA, bottom five in the NHL, thanks in part to an .889 team save percentage.

Bryan Rust, PIT at OTT ($3,600): Kessel is the proven, but pricey, commodity with a great matchup. Rust is more of a roll of the dice based on the Senators being truly horrendous defensively. Rust has struggled this year, but he still skates on a line with Sidney Crosby, which means something, and his 2.5 percent shooting is bound to improve. The Senators have a 4.10 GAA and have given up 38.1 shots on net per contest. If Rust is ever going to right the ship, this would be as good of a place as any to start.

DEFENSE

Seth Jones, CLM vs. WAS ($6,000): Jones has been great recently with a five-game point streak, but so far he's struggled on the power play. The 24-year-old only has two points with the extra man, despite the fact he's averaged 2:58 per game. Washington has the 25th-ranked penalty kill, but on top of that they have a 3.57 GAA on the road.

Neal Pionk, NYR at FLA ($5,000): Pionk is still under the radar, but that makes him a nice value for daily fantasy players. He's got 16 points in 26 games, and he's been particularly good on the power play. The 23-year-old has 11 points with the extra man. As previously noted, the Panthers have a 3.48 GAA, but they are also tied for 23rd in penalty-kill percentage.
