Meyer is now playing in the Swedish Elite League after amassing no points in six games in the AHL in 2011-12.
Meyer came over to Phoenix in exchange for Steve Reinprecht, and joins the flock of young forward prospects within the Coyotes organization. Meyer has put up nice offensive numbers for a younger player in the minors, putting up consecutive 40 point seasons the last two years. Meyer will likely spend the season in AHL Las Vegas, and if he continues to improve, he'll join the elite group of young forwards that Phoenix can brag about.
Meyer's slow-but-steady development continued last season to the tune of 21-19—40 in 70 AHL games. He may get a sniff of the NHL against this season, but don't expect anything even remotely close to roto worth.
Meyer is not considered a candidate for significant NHL time. The Panthers will be looking for Meyer to put up better numbers in Rochester while continuing to establish himself as a hard-hitting winger.
Meyer impressed in his rookie campaign with AHL Rochester by playing a high-energy physical style. He put up a point per game through most of his junior years, so the Panthers believe there is an upside that may develop. Don't expect to see him the NHL this season.
It's never easy predicting how a rookie will perform, but it's a safe bet Meyer will be effective on the AHL level this season. Meyer is stronger on his skates, but could stand to work on his quickness. His goal-scoring potential has never been in question, but he's worked to produce more assists over his junior career. The Panthers' depth at all forward positions will help ease Meyer into the pro game.
