Nastiuk has yet to make an impact on Carolina's goaltender depth chart. In 2010-11, the Ukranian-Canadian played for the Berlin Polar Bears in Germany, having recorded just 10 starts and a meager 4-5 record. Needless to say, this twine tender will not be making any imminent appearances for the Hurricanes.
Nastiuk was once coveted by the Hurricanes, but he'll likely prevent goals in Germany, playing for the Berlin Polar Bears, in 2010-11.
Nastiuk was selected by Carolina in round four of the 2003 NHL entry draft. Once considered a cant-miss prospect, he has no value since he’s never taken to NHL ice.
Nastiuk is several bus tokens away from the NHL, and has several passengers in line ahead of him. The signing of Michael Leighton pushed Nastiuk even farther down the depth chart. Almost no chance of any significant ice time with the parent club in the near future.
Nastiuk is one of the top two goaltenders in the Hurricanes' minor league system. He'll provide provide backup again this season, and will probably see his first NHL ice time, but he's unlikely to contribute any meaningful fantasy numbers.
There's no reason to draft Nastiuk this season; he's still a couple of years away from being ready.
