Past Fantasy Outlooks
Currently, Fitzgerald is merely a depth defenseman with no fantasy value. He will open the season with Adirondack (AHL).
Fitzgerald kept the zebras plenty busy with their whistles last season. In 77 games, this 6-foot-1, 214-pound rearguard accumulated 311 penalty minutes, easily the most in the AHL. With Fitz spending so much time spent in the Sin Bin, you might be surprised that he still managed 14 points, including 12 helpers. While those numbers aren't exactly impressive, they stand as the highest offensive totals of his professional career, suggesting that he might actually be concerned with more than just dropping his gloves for a fight. Most importantly, if Carolina needs an enforcer they know who to call.
This past offseason, Fitzgerald was inked to a two-year contract with Carolina. He’ll be hard-pressed for minutes in the NHL this season, but can be counted on as a depth option in case injuries strike members of the blue line.
At 6-2, 205, Fitzgerald has found his niche in the AHL as an enforcer. He received a one game call up for the Canucks last season, but with the addition of Darcy Hordichuk, it is unlikely that the Canucks will need to utilize Fitzgerald's head-cracking skills this season.
