GBuffalo Sabres  Free Agent
June 30, 2014
Knapp did not receive a qualifying offer from the Sabres on Monday, reports John Vogl of The Buffalo News.
ANALYSIS
Knapp was one of six goalies to suit up for the Sabres this year, posting a .875 save percentage and 3.12 GAA. Without a qualifying offer, the former sixth-round pick from 2009 will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1. Despite a poor season, Matt Hackett was given a qualifying offer, which means the Sabres are prepared to go with Hackett for another season. With Nathan Lieuwen, Jhonas Enroth, Michal Neuvirth, Andrey Makarov and Linus Ullmark in the system, there simply was no room for Knapp. The 6-foot-5 goalie should be able to find work elsewhere, having worked his way up from the ECHL at the beginning of the season to make his NHL debut.

2012
Knapp struggled in his first season as a pro, finishing the year with Greenville of the ECHL after failing to gain traction with the Sabres’ AHL affiliate in Rochester. He’s certainly not a blue-chip prospect, but the Sabres still likely expected better numbers than what he delivered in the AHL (1-6, 3.34 GAA, .893 SV%). Knapp will compete for the chance to play backup to Matt Hackett in Rochester, but could see time in the ECHL once again.
Knapp is set to begin his first season of professional hockey after a four-year college career with Miami University (Ohio). A sixth-rounder in 2009, Knapp signed an entry-level contract in April and will compete for the right to back up David Leggio with the Sabres' AHL affiliate in Rochester.
