Carrick signed a two-year contract with San Jose on Monday after being acquired from Carolina in exchange for Miles Wood.
ANALYSIS
Carrick saw action in just one NHL game last season with the Hurricanes, instead spending the year in the minors with AHL Charlotte, for which he notched nine goals and 38 helpers in 71 contests. The 25-year-old will get a chance to secure regular minutes during training camp, though will likely still have to spend time with the Barracuda.

Blue Line Buzz: New Kids On The Line
March 21, 2016
RotoWire's Jason Chen notes that in a long, grueling season, injuries have opened up holes on a lot of teams' defensive pairs, allowing players like Stephen Johns of the Stars to step in.
2018 Fantasy Outlook
Carrick enjoyed a dynamite season with AHL Charlotte last season, registering 44 points (11 goals, 33 assists) in 73 games, making him the top-scoring defenseman for the Checkers and sixth overall in the AHL. In May, the Canes signed Carrick to a one-year, two-way contract extension, which pretty much guarantees he will open the upcoming season back in the AHL. However, he has a ton of offensive upside, and it shouldn't be long before he graduates to a full-time role at the NHL level. Keep an eye on him.
