Fienhage split last season between the Sabres' AHL and ECHL affiliates in Rochester and Gwinett, respectively, putting up 17 points in 52 games. The 22-year old defenseman will likely see the same type of role in this coming season as he tries to carve out a professional career.
After spending almost all of 2010-11 with Kamloop of the WHL, Fienhage made a brief cameo with the Sabres' AHL affiliate in Portland towards the end of the season. In four games the North Dakota Fighting Sioux product was pointless, but earned six PIMs. Still very raw, the 21-year-old will develop with Buffalo's new AHL affiliate in Rochester for all of 2011-12.
Fienhage will spend the season with the University of North Dakota, who may have the best defense in the country entering the 2010-11 season. Fienhage is still a few years away from factoring into Buffalo's plans.
Fienhage will be a freshman at the University of North Dakota in 2008-09.
