Past Fantasy Outlooks
Once hailed as the franchise's netminder of the future, Schwarz will compete with Ben Bishop for playing time -- and to keep that title -- with the Rivermen this season. Schwarz was far from dominant at the AHL level last season, so Bishop could potentially leapfrog him on the organizational depth chart before April.
The Blues aren't going to be winning anything next year, so they should just let Schwarz make the team and have him play at least half of their games. Schwarz had a very good first season with Peoria of the AHL and was selected to play for the PlanetUSA team at the AHL All-Star game. Schwarz injured his groin late in the season, but he is clearly the goaltender of the future in St. Louis and his time may come very soon.
Schwarz sat on the bench mostly for the last two seasons in the Czech Republic, but this year he is coming to North America and figures to start the season in the AHL. With the signing of Manny Legace from Detroit, the Blues' goaltending situation has been addressed, which could keep Schwarz out of St. Louis until next season.
