DraftKings NHL: Sunday Value Picks

DraftKings NHL: Sunday Value Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings NHL series.

There are only three games in the NHL on Sunday, and three teams are playing in back-to-back situations. Here are some value plays and low-priced fliers to utilize while assembling your DraftKings lineups.

GOALIE

Jaroslav Halak, NYI vs. ANA ($7,800): Anaheim is playing its third road game in four nights to start the season and has scored just four goals through the first two outings. Halak is coming off a strong World Cup of Hockey appearance. Look for a bounce-back outing after he allowed four tallies in the opener to the Rangers.

CENTER

Connor McDavid, EDM vs. BUF ($8,700): After registering three points in each of the first two games of the season, you're fading McDavid at your own risk Sunday, especially since this is an even friendlier matchup. Plus, at this salary, if McDavid has another big night, you might not be able to cash without him.

Jordan Staal, CAR at VAN ($4,700): A contrarian option in line to play hefty minutes (20:35 in the opener with 4:26 of power-play time), Staal scored in the first game of the season and remains a decent secondary scorer. Vancouver is also playing its second game in two nights.

WINGER

Loui Eriksson, VAN vs. CAR ($6,000): After scoring on his own net Saturday, look for the top-line winger to build on his Canucks debut. Eriksson is skating with Henrik Sedin and Daniel Sedin in all situations and registered an assist in his first game of the season.

Nick Ritchie, ANA at NYI ($3,900): After a 33-game debut last season, Ritchie finds himself atop the depth chart on a line with Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry. Ritchie fired four shot on net in the opener, and then he received a whopping 21:14 of ice time Saturday. He's not going to be held off the scoresheet much longer.

Zack Kassian, EDM vs. BUF ($3,200): Promoted to a top-six role for the game Friday after scoring a goal in the opener, Kassian is a contrarian flier. He also might have some added motivation because Buffalo was the team that originally drafted him. In addition to the nice narrative, the Sabres are also cushy matchup given the multiple injuries they're dealing with.

DEFENSE

Johnny Boychuk, NYI vs. ANA ($4,800): Through two games, Boychuck has an assist, four shots on net and four blocked shots. The Islanders host the Ducks on Sunday, and Anaheim will be playing its third road game in four nights. Boychuk owns a solid floor because of his cross-category production.

Kris Russell, EDM vs. BUF ($3,600): Amazingly, Russell has as many assists as he does blocked shots (three). However, it's the blocks that make him a high-floor option and provide an excellent base for points and shots on goal to add on. Entering this season, Russell blocked 694 shots over the past three years.
