Yahoo DFS Hockey: Tuesday Picks

Yahoo DFS Hockey: Tuesday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Hockey series.

There are 12 games in the NHL on Tuesday. At Yahoo, it's always worth scrolling all the way through the player pool because some solid players can be found at, or near, minimum price. With that said, here are some targets, fades and values to consider when assembling your lineups.

GOALIE

Martin Jones, SAN vs. CGY ($35): The Flames enter on the wrong end of back-to-back road games, and San Jose is allowing just 2.25 goals per game. After a breakout campaign last year, Jones has been even better this season with a .919 save percentage and a 2.13 GAA. This is a good spot for him, and for the Sharks.

GOALIE TO AVOID

Peter Budaj, LOS at CLM ($29): Columbus' 3.34 goals per game is tied for most in the league, and the Blue Jackets own the league's best power play as well. It adds up to an unfavorable spot for Budaj, and he isn't a strong option Tuesday. Don't be lured in by his excellent recent play (one goal allowed on 69 shots over his past two starts) or attractive salary, the 34-year-old netminder is likely in for a long night on the road against the dangerous Blue Jackets.

CENTER

Mark Scheifele, WPG vs. VAN ($25): The Canucks have allowed the fourth most high-danger scoring chances per 60 minutes in the league, and Scheifele has 29 goals, 61 points and 148 shots over his past 54 games dating back to last season. He's also posted a 16th-ranked 2.83 points per 60 minutes among skaters with 500 minutes this year.

CENTER TO AVOID

Sidney Crosby, PIT vs. NYR ($35): Before his three-game goal drought, Crosby had a shooting percentage of 26.9 percent, and there is still negative regression ahead for his current 25.0 percent mark. With 24 teams in play, sinking a huge portion of your salary cap into a single asset can backfire, and Crosby needs a multi-point game just to reach value.

WING

Cam Atkinson, CLM vs. LOS ($24): Not only has Atkinson posted 12 goals, 31 points and 85 shots over 29 games this year, he is also sporting a six-game point streak (four goals and six assists) and owns a third-ranked 3.56 points per 60 minutes among skaters with at least 500 minutes this year. He's been an elite scoring option this year, and his price doesn't reflect it.

Alexander Radulov, MON vs. ANA ($19): The winger has missed the scoresheet in five of his past six games, but still owns a 21st-ranked 2.79 points per 60 minutes among all skaters with at least 400 minutes this season. Facing Anaheim on the wrong end of back-to-back games is a slump-busting matchup for Radulov.

WINGERS TO AVOID

Corey Perry, ANA at DAL ($23): Home-road splits aren't always predictive of future results, but Perry's poor road results are particularly concerning in the goals column. Over the past two years, he has just 14 goals over 59 away games. Additionally, a date with the Canadiens on the second leg of back-to-back road games isn't favorable, as Montreal is allowing just 1.72 goals per game at the Bell Centre.

Zach Parise, MIN vs. COL ($22): This salary is too high for Parise. The veteran winger is well past his prime and sports an underwhelming 1.85 points per 60 minutes, which ranks 132nd in the league among skaters with at least 400 minutes. He also has just two multi-point games all year, so his ceiling is low.

DEFENSE

Justin Schultz, PIT vs. NYR ($16): Now the clear No. 1 offensive defenseman for Pittsburgh, Schultz's fantasy value has skyrocketed, as he has posted five goals, 13 points, 21 shots and a plus-12 rating through his past 10 games. He also logged a season-high 23:03 of ice Saturday against Toronto last time out. This salary doesn't do his upside justice.

Anton Stralman, TAM vs. DET ($12): This is a bounce-back spot for Stralman. Since returning from an upper-body injury eight games ago, the veteran rearguard has just one assist, seven shots and 10 blocked shots. However, he's averaged 24:01 of ice with 2:10 on the power play. At minimum price, Stralman presents a high fantasy floor and significant cap relief.

DEFENSEMEN TO AVOID

Mark Giordano, CGY at SAN ($22): With a minus-5 rating through his past three games and a tough road matchup in which he'll see significant action against the Sharks' top line, there isn't much to like about Giordano's fantasy upside at this salary. After all, Joe Thornton and Joe Pavelski have combined for a 64.7 goals for percentage and 58.3 Corsi For percentage over the past four years at five-on-five. It's also a road back-to-back spot for Calgary, and Giordano logged 25:16 of ice Monday, so his legs could be heavy.

Ryan McDonagh, NYR at PIT ($19): Similar to Giordano's outlook, McDonagh will spend most of his night opposite Sidney Crosby or Evgeni Malkin, which isn't a recipe for fantasy success. Pittsburgh's 3.34 goals per game is tied for highest in the league, and the Penguins are generating the most scoring chances per 60 minutes (33.83).
