DraftKings NHL: Thursday Picks

DraftKings NHL: Thursday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings NHL series.

GOALIE

Corey Crawford, CHI at PHI ($7,400) – I'm not exactly sure why there's a discount on Crawford when he's allowed just two goals in his past three games. It's not his fault the Blackhawks can't score, and they shouldn't have any problems against a Flyers defense that allowed five goals against the Avs. In a meeting between the two teams last week, Crawford turned in a 35-save shutout. Crawford is cheaper than goalies of a similar caliber facing better teams, such as Jonathan Quick ($7,700) against the Lightning.

CENTER

Brayden Schenn, STL vs. ARI ($6,300) – Schenn's scored seven points in his past two games, and this season, he has cemented himself as the Blues' No. 1 center. Much of that has to do with Jaden Schwartz and Vladimir Tarasenko, but you've got to have some skill to play with those two guys. The Coyotes are easy prey, and their revamped defense hasn't looked very good so far this season.

Dylan Larkin, DET at CGY ($5,100) – Things did not look good in Cowtown on Tuesday when the Flames allowed five goals to the rival Canucks in a loss. Larkin's scored five points in his past five games, and the Wings are getting on a roll with four wins in their past five games. Now a full-time center, Larkin also has the benefit of playing alongside some quality scoring wingers, something the Wings seem to have in abundance now.

WING

Taylor Hall, NJ vs. EDM ($7,300) – Hall admitted he was caught off-guard when the Oilers traded him, and he scored a goal against his former team the last time they met. This time, the Devils will be on home ice and hopefully skate away with a win. They're trying to snap a three-game losing streak, but Hall's playing well with four goals and four assists in his past six games.

Rickard Rakell, ANH vs. VAN ($6,100) – Now that Ryan Getzlaf is out for an extended time, offense will fall on the shoulders of Rakell, who currently leads the Ducks in scoring with 11 points in 15 games. This is a great opportunity for Rakell to show that he can be a star after scoring 33 goals last year, and the Canucks shouldn't pose a big challenge. Rakell's on a three-game point streak and averaging over 20 minutes per game after 17:23 last year.

Vladislav Namestnikov, TB at LA ($5,600) – The oft-forgotten third member of Tampa's top line, Namestnikov helped combine for nine points with Nikita Kucherov and Steven Stamkos in Wednesday's win over San Jose. They're simply unstoppable, and Namestnikov chipped in with two goals, an assist, a hit and three blocked shots. The Kings are good, but Namestnikov is hard to pass up when he costs $2,000 less than his linemates.

DEFENSE

Ivan Provorov, PHI vs. CHI ($5,200) – He went quiet on offense after recording three assists against Arizona, but in his past three games Provorov's been a beast with peripheral stats: 13 hits and 14 blocked shots, including 10 blocked shots against the Blues. He's averaging close to 30 minutes per game, and he'll be throwing his body in front of a lot of pucks with the Blackhawks looking to jumpstart their offense.

Jeff Petry, MON vs. MIN ($3,200) – He's not a popular pick at all, but with two points in his past three games and an uptick in ice time, Petry might be worth a gamble. The Wild defense hasn't been good this season, even for Bruce Boudreau's standards, which will present some scoring opportunities, especially with Petry firing the puck more often.
