DraftKings MLB: Wednesday Picks

DraftKings MLB: Wednesday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

Wednesday night's slate is slim, but it's almost the perfect set up with half the games having over/unders above 10 runs. That probably means everyone will look at the same pitchers, but there's always more places to go with hitting and my outfield is all about value.

PITCHER

Tyler Skaggs, LAA vs. CWS ($10,200): Skaggs only had one strikeout last start, but that was against the Astros. This time he faces a subpar White Sox lineup that has a .126 ISO and .303 wOBA against southpaws in the last month. Prior to his poor performance against Houston, Skaggs had at least five strikeouts in 12-straight starts. His price is a bit high on a small slate, but he may be the most likely to hit 20 fantasy points.

GPP Fade: Charlie Morton, HOU at COL ($8,800): There isn't a true fade on this slate since I think David Price ($9,500) should also be owned. Either way, Morton's price finally dropped from its outlandish level ($11,900 last start) after allowing eight runs to the A's and White Sox in his last two outings. He has a great 11-2 record, but pitching at Coors Field against the Rockies won't be easy. Colorado is also roping with a .224 ISO and .353 wOBA against righties in the last month.

Cheap GPP Consideration: James Shields, CWS at LAA ($6,000): Shields has shown he can put together big outings, going at least 6.2 innings in four of his last five starts. That's at least a starting point and he doesn't cost much. To help, the Angels have been mediocre against righties with a .320 wOBA since the beginning of June.

CATCHER

Jonathan Lucroy, OAK at TEX ($2,800): Lucroy's price is hard to beat in this situation even if he has little power. He's been slightly better against lefties this year and that's been the case throughout his career with a .344 wOBA. Martin Perez was lit up for six runs last start and has an 8.05 ERA through seven outings this season.

FIRST BASE

Ronald Guzman, TEX vs. OAK ($3,500):  Guzman has better numbers against lefties, but he still has a workable .322 BABIP against righties and that's enough to try as a value first baseman. Edwin Jackson's been competent in his first five starts, although it's still a limited sample after allowing a .335 wOBA to lefty bats in 2017.

SECOND BASE

Chad Pinder, OAK at TEX ($4,100):  Pinder should be the highest-owned player in this spot because he doesn't cost an overwhelming amount and is much better against lefties with five homers and a .387 BABIP. Perez has a brutal 2.73 HR/9 against righty bats after getting blasted for a 5.12 xFIP against them a year ago.

THIRD BASE

Rafael Devers, BOS at BAL ($3,600):  Devers is the only Red Sox player I'm writing about, but you could roster most of their lineup if they fit. Devers has a solid 28 extra-base hits (11 HR) against righties this year and that's seen in his career .198 ISO. This is one of the last lineups Dylan Bundy wants to face having allowed five home runs and 15 runs in his last three starts.

SHORTSTOP

Elvis Andrus, TEX vs. OAK ($3,800): Andrus has come around since the break with nine hits in his last six games as he's trying to get back to last year's .340 wOBA against righties. Jackson could help that if looks anything like he did in 2017 with an ugly 3.23 HR/9 and 6.18 xFIP against righty bats.

OUTFIELD

Mark Canha, OAK at TEX ($3,600): There's little reason not to use Canha as a cheaper outfielder that has 11 homers against southpaws to go with a .416 wOBA. The A's are licking their chops for this matchup against Perez, who hasn't improved from last season's .362 wOBA allowed to righties.

Kole Calhoun, LAA vs. CWS ($3,600):  Calhoun has 10 homers this year and seven of them have come in July, all against righties. That's worth gambling on against James Shields, who has a 5.13 xFIP against lefties and is only one year removed from 2.82 HR/9 against them.

Gerardo Parra, COL vs. HOU ($3,500): If you have money, it makes sense to grab one of Colorado's power bats, but Parra at least gets on base with a .382 BABIP against righties. Morton is striking out lefties with a ridiculous 39.9 K%, yet his .337 BABIP allowed has been an issue.
