Yahoo DFS Baseball: Sunday Picks

Yahoo DFS Baseball: Sunday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

This Sunday is the first weekend of the NFL season. But don't forget about baseball. There are 15 MLB games Sunday, most of them in the afternoon. Get your lineups in by 1:07 PM ET. Here are some recommendations. Good luck (and enjoy your football).

PITCHER

Trevor Williams, PIT vs. MIA ($39): You may have heard Williams has recently been on a tear. In case you need the details, he's posted a 0.66 ERA over his last nine starts. The Marlins are unlikely to be the team to send the hurler crashing back to reality, as they sit last in runs scored by a decent margin.

Trevor Cahill, OAK vs. TEX ($36): Today's the day for Trevors on the mound. Cahill has been amazing at home, with a 0.85 ERA in Oakland's ballpark ON THE SEASON. The Rangers fare well in runs scored, but that's because of home cooking. On the road, they actually rank 28th in this category.

CATCHER

Yan Gomes, CLE at TOR ($13): Gomes has been mashing against southpaws this season to the tune of a .902 OPS. Toronto starter Thomas Pannone happens to be left-handed, and also comes in with a 4.58 ERA.

FIRST BASE

Max Muncy, LAD at COL ($17): Somehow, it feels as though Muncy is still under the radar, yet he's smacked 32 home runs, with eight of them coming in his last 30 games. The breakout Dodger has a .962 OPS, and he's hit both lefties and righties just fine. Don't be surprised if he adds to that homer total at Coors Field, especially against Tyler Anderson, who has allowed 1.64 homers per nine innings.

SECOND BASE

Brandon Lowe, TAM vs. BAL ($12): Lowe has only just begun his MLB career with 23 games, but he's hit well so far. In particular, he's getting on base regularly, posting a .370 OBP. Although this is mostly about the matchup, with the Orioles set to give Josh Rogers a spot start. He enters with a 4.35 ERA through two starts, but he probably would've cracked this terrible rotation if he was any good. On that front, he struggled to a 4.11 FIP in Double-A this year.

THIRD BASE

Kris Bryant, CHC at WAS ($18): Bryant has looked decent since returning from a trip to the disabled list, and his is a bat we don't have to worry about. We're talking about a guy with a career .286/.386/517 slash line who has never failed to hit at least 26 homers in a full season. Now he gets to face Nationals pitcher Erick Fedde, who sports a career 7.08 ERA.

SHORTSTOP

Jean Segura, SEA vs. NYY ($16): Segura has averaged 6.9 fantasy points per game, thanks in part to his speed. He has 20 stolen bases through 129 games, his sixth season in a row hitting that threshold. The 28-year-old also maintains a .343 OBP, giving him plenty of opportunities to take a base. CC Sabathia enters with a 3.56 ERA, but that number drops to 4.27 on the road. He's also scuffled recently, posting a 4.57 ERA over his last nine starts.

OUTFIELD

Hunter Renfroe, SD at CIN ($19): Are you aware just how hot Renfroe has been recently? We're talking a .989 OPS and a whopping 13 homers in his last 30 games hot, and that's while playing his home games at Petco Park. Tyler Mahle comes in with a 5.24 FIP and has allowed 1.73 home runs per nine innings. Renfroe will not be worried about those numbers, and neither should you.

Scott Schebler, CIN vs. SD ($17): The other side of that Reds-Padres matchup also provides intriguing options. Due to injuries, Schebler isn't going to hit 30 home runs again, but he still has struck 15 in 90 games with a .473 slugging percentage. Jacob Nix has been inconsistent in five starts with the Padres, sporting a 4.85 ERA while only striking out a mere 3.81 batters per nine innings.

Max Kepler, MIN vs. KC ($11): Kepler has struggled a bit recently, but on the season he's been a much different – and better – hitter at home by slashing .261/.365/.495 in his own ballpark. Ian Kennedy is coming off the DL to start for the Royals in this game and comes in with a 5.13 ERA while allowing 1.71 homers per nine innings.
