FanDuel MLB: Wednesday Picks

FanDuel MLB: Wednesday Picks

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

Welcome to my Daily Plays article for Wednesday. There are a few day games, but we are only looking at players in the evening slate.

Weather around the nation is still something to consider, so keep an eye out for potential rainouts. Wednesday evening has 11 games on the schedule, so let's get on to the players.

Pitcher

Drew Pomeranz, $6,800 - None of the expensive pitchers really stand out on Wednesday, as Edinson Volquez is the most expensive pitcher available. Thus, let's look at some value starting pitchers that are throwing on Wednesday. Pomeranz threw seven shutout innings in his first start, struck out six, and allowed just two hits. He is facing the Astros, who have really struggled offensively to open up the year and were second in the league in striking out going into Tuesday night. Pomeranz also dominated the Astros in 2014, going seven plus innings and striking out nine, without allowing an earned run.

Brandon Morrow, $6,600 - Morrow has always had great stuff, he just hasn't been able to stay healthy for long periods of time. He is getting a fresh start in San Diego, and looked sharp in his first start of the year, striking out seven batters in seven innings against the Giants, without allowing a run. Morrow averages over a strikeout-per-inning over his career, and is facing the Diamondbacks in Petco Park, making him a tremendous value play on Wednesday night.

Catcher

Miguel Montero, $3,100 - Montero is the top value play at catcher on Wednesday due to his success versus right handed pitching, and his dominance of Jason Marquis. Montero batted .256 versus right handed pitching last year (compared to .198 versus left-handed pitching), and has owned Marquis in the past. In 20 at-bats versus the veteran right hander, he has two doubles and four home runs. Look for Montero to break out on Wednesday night.

First Base

Lucas Duda, $3,600 - Duda is the top value first baseman on Wednesday night, as he is facing Jerome Williams at home and he crushes right handed pitching. Duda hit .273 and slugged .543 versus right handed pitching in 2014 and is heating up with three RBI on Tuesday. Citi Field has new dimensions that are more favorable for home runs, so look for Duda to take advantage of Williams and his 4.77 ERA in 2014. I also like Anthony Rizzo to break out on Wednesday, as he also crushes right handed pitching.

Second Base

Rickie Weeks, $2,600 - Weeks is getting a fresh start with the Mariners, and has not disappointed so far. He is starting versus left-handed pitchers, and led off on Tuesday night versus David Huff. Assuming he leads off again on Wednesday versus another lefty, Brett Anderson, then fire up Weeks as a value play at second base. Weeks homered on Sunday, and had a multi-hit game on Tuesday night, so look for Weeks to keep it going on Wednesday night.

Third Base

Mike Moustakas, $3,100 - Moustakas has started 2015 on a roll, hitting .360 so far and batting in the number two spot for the Royals. He has a favorable matchup on Wednesday against Kyle Gibson, and Moustakas loves to face right handed pitching (both of his home runs so far this year have been versus right handers). Moustakas has also hit Gibson well in the past, with 2 doubles and a single in seven at bats.

Shortstop

Jose Reyes, $3,800 - There are not too many options at Shortstop on Wednesday, but Reyes stands out as the top play. Not only is he at home, but he is facing Erasmo Ramirez, who gave up seven runs in two innings in his first outing of the year. Reyes switch-hits, but prefers hitting from the left side, and most of his power comes hitting left-handed (eight of his nine home runs in 2014). Reyes is the top shortstop play on Wednesday night, and is worth the price.

Outfield

Nelson Cruz, $4,300 - Cruz is the hottest hitter in baseball, having homered in four consecutive games. He also loves to hit left-handed pitching, as he hit .314 versus left-handers in 2014, and slugged .569 against them (compared to .258 and .513 respectively versus right handers). Cruz gets another left-hander in Brett Anderson on Wednesday, so ride him while he's hot.

Travis Snider, $3,100 - Snider has enjoyed the move to the Orioles so far in 2015 and is hitting in the middle of their lineup. He has started the year off hot at the plate, and gets a favorable matchup versus Nathan Eovaldi at home. Snider hit 11 home runs in 280 at bats last year versus right handers, and is now playing in hitter friendly Camden Yards. Eovaldi struggles versus left-handed hitters as well, as they hit .296 and slugged .438 against him in 2014.

Marlon Byrd, $2,500 - Byrd is the best value play in the outfield, as he gets to face the mediocre left-hander Travis Wood. Byrd has three hits and three RBI over his past two games, so he is starting to produce at the plate. He also enjoys hitting versus left-handed pitching, as he hit nine home runs in just 162 at bats versus left-handers in 2014, making Byrd a top value play in the outfield on Wednesday night.
