PITCHER
Carlos Martinez, STL vs. ATL ($10,000): Martinez takes the hill for the first time this season against a Braves squad that he shut out over eight innings in his one 2015 meeting against them. He also looked terrific in his last two outings of the spring, and he possesses all the tools to overpower an Atlanta lineup that's often looked overmatched against good fastball pitchers. Martinez sports a mid-90s heater and generated a sterling 9.22 K/9 rate last season, while keeping the ball in the park at an 0.7 HR/9 clip. With a home date and matchup that favors his pitching style, Martinez is worth the investment.
Cole Hamels, TEX at LAA ($11,200): Hamels looked impressive in a pitchers' duel against Felix Hernandez on Opening Day, racking up eight K's over seven innings while scoring 27 fantasy points. He'll take his act on the road, which may not necessarily be a bad thing considering he'll get away from hitter-friendly Globe Life Park. On an evening slate that's short of premium pitchers, Hamels becomes a high ceiling option that should be affordable given other value plays available.
CATCHER
Matt Wieters, BAL vs. TAM ($3,400): Wieters certainly has some pop in his bat, and Drew Smyly has proven quite generous with the long ball, finishing with a 1.5 HR/9 rate in 2015, and he got the new season started by surrendering three dingers to the Blue Jays in his first start. He also surrendered all 11 of his homers to righties last season. Meanwhile, Weiters has scored five, nine and 10 fantasy points over his first three games, respectively, while collecting at least a hit and an RBI in each. The Orioles backstop also posted a .314 w0BA against southpaws last season and will get to tee off on Smyly in hitter-friendly Camden Yards.
FIRST BASE
Tyler White, HOU at MIL ($3,400): If it wasn't for the jaw-dropping start by Trevor Story in Colorado, White would likely be the talk of baseball among rookies. He's managed back-to-back 26-fantasy point outings thanks to two homers and seven RBI over his last pair of contests. Saturday, he'll take aim at the vulnerable Wily Peralta in the hitter-friendly confines of Miller Park. Peralta struggles against both handedness of hitters, and White has proven capable of producing against all comers over the early part of the season.
SECOND BASE
Jonathan Schoop, BAL vs. TB ($3,000): We'll double-dip on Orioles with Schoop, who's started the 2016 season red-hot, picking up a hit in each of the first four games and scoring seven, seven, five and 14 fantasy points, respectively. The second baseman launched his first homer of the season Friday and enjoyed a productive spring where he launched four dingers. Although he was more of a reverse-splits hitter last season, Schoop's power potential and Smyly's propensity for surrendering the long ball make for a potentially explosive recipe in Camden Yards.
THIRD BASE
Adonis Garcia, ATL vs. STL ($2,700): Any time you can get a clean-up hitter at bargain price, it's worthy of strong consideration. Such is the case with Garcia, who surprised many last season with a solid 191 at-bat major league debut at age 29. He's off to a solid start in 2016, homering on Opening Day and then following it up with a three-hit outing in his second game. He's averaging 11 fantasy points per game over his first three, and though he'll face off against the formidable Carlos Martinez, who's also recommended above, Garcia's price and place in the batting order make him worthy of consideration.
SHORTSTOP
Jean Segura, ARI vs. CHC ($3,700): Segura is likely to be under-owned given the current Trevor Story craze, yet he's off to a torrid start of his own from the lead-off spot in the Diamondbacks' lineup. He's scored over 20 fantasy points in three of the first five games and has already launched three homers, including a rather infamous inside-the-park one that ended up costing Cubs outfielder Kyle Schwarber his season. Meanwhile, though Kyle Hendricks proved to be a solid component of the Chicago pitching staff last season, he'll have to deal with Segura in hitter-friendly Chase Field.
OUTFIELD
Delino DeShields, Jr., TEX at LAA ($3,600): The dynamic DeShields broke out for 22 fantasy points on Friday versus the Angels, and given his leadoff role and speed, he has the ability to offer multi-category production on any given day. While he doesn't draw the easiest of matchups versus Garrett Richards, the potent Rangers lineup has proven capable of teeing off on virtually any pitcher, and DeShields may leverage his breakout performance into an extended stretch of success at the plate.
Eduardo Escobar, MIN at KC ($2,900): Escobar is off to an outstanding start, generating 12, five, 10 and nine fantasy points over his first four games, respectively. He's got a hit in each of those contests, and extra-base hits in three of the four. He'll face off against Ian Kennedy, who has been of the most generous pitchers with the long ball in the last few seasons, and who has performed about equally against hitters of either handedness. Escobar launched 12 homers last season and is still looking for his first in 2016, and the possibility of breaking the ice is high with Kennedy on the hill.
Yasmany Tomas, ARI vs. ChC ($3,300): Tomas tallied 11 and 12 fantasy points in his first two games, respectively, before cooling off over the next couple of contests. However, he hits in the heart of a prolific Arizona lineup and has plenty of firepower in front of him that often sets him up with RBI opportunities. While he draws the capable Kyle Hendricks, Tomas has the bat and the right ballpark with which to tee off.
