DraftKings MLB: Sunday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

PITCHER

Scott Kazmir, LAD vs. ATL ($10,700): Kazmir has been outstanding in three of his last four starts, scoring between 25.7 and 35.9 fantasy points. He draws the ideal matchup for extending that success, as the Braves are by far the most punchless squad in the majors against left-handed pitching. Atlanta has posted a league-worst .215 batting average and .254 wOBA versus southpaws, along with a 23.4 percent strikeout rate that ranks them in the bottom 10.

Tanner Roark, WAS at CIN ($8,800): The Reds have a 22.4 percent strikeout rate and .300 wOBA against right-handed pitchers, both bottom 10-rankings in the majors. Roark has posted three consecutive quality starts, and has scored between 19.6 and 25.6 fantasy points in six of his last eight starts.

CATCHER

Chris Ianetta, SEA at TEX ($3,500): Ianetta sports an impressive .374 wOBA against lefties this season, and he has a favorable history against Rangers starter Derek Holland, slashing .364/.423/.545 with a double, homer and four RBI over 22 career at-bats. Additionally, Holland has given up a .336 wOBA and all five of his homers this season to right-handed hitters.

FIRST BASE

Adam Lind, SEA at TEX ($3,200): Despite the lefty-on-lefty matchup against Holland, Lind is in play Sunday based on his .400/.412/.600 line over 15 career at-bats against the veteran lefty, including a homer and six RBI. He's also thriving against left-handers in general this season, sporting a .368 wOBA and 30 percent hard contact rate against them, albeit in a limited sample.

Jose Abreu, CWS at DET ($3,000) Abreu is another low-cost option who will likely be under-owned on a large slate, but he boasts a nice resume versus Tigers starter Justin Verlander, slashing .381/.435/.714 over 22 career at-bats against him, along with a double, two homers and two RBI. Abreu also has five of his six homers on the season versus righties, and Verlander has given up six of his eight home runs to right-handed bats.

SECOND BASE

Jason Kipnis, CLE vs. KC ($4,600): Kipnis has a .429/.467/.786 slash line over 14 career at-bats against Royals starter Chris Young, including two doubles, a homer and three RBI. He also boasts a .360 wOBA and 39.5 percent hard contact rate against right-handed pitching this season. Meanwhile, Young has allowed a .489 wOBA and nine of his 13 homers to lefties, along with a jaw-dropping 10.21 FIP and massive 53.1 percent hard contact rate.

THIRD BASE

Adrian Beltre, TEX vs. SEA ($4,400): The homer-prone Hisashi Iwakuma makes for a nice target for Beltre, who's slashed .310/.341/.571 against him over 42 career at-bats, along with a pair of doubles, three homers and five RBI. The Mariners' starter has given up a .333 wOBA and seven of his 10 homers on the season to right-handed hitters as well, and Beltre has posted a .336 wOBA, .212 ISO and 34.1 percent hard contact rate versus right-handed pitching.

SHORTSTOP

Javier Baez, CHI vs. ARI ($3,300): Baez hasn't quite lived up to expectations this season, but he has posted an incredible .502 wOBA against left-handed pitching. Sunday he'll face southpaw Patrick Corbin, who's given up a .363 wOBA and 10 of his 11 homers to righties this season, along with a robust 5.55 FIP.

OUTFIELD

Starling Marte, PIT vs. LAA ($4,700): Marte has uncharacteristically experienced some troubles against left-handed pitching this season, but he has a .365 wOBA lifetime versus southpaws. The Angels' Hector Santiago has struggled with both the long ball and right-handed hitting, a lethal combination against a player like Marte. The southpaw has given up a .356 wOBA and 12 out of his 14 homers on the season to right-handed bats, along with a 6.17 FIP and 35.1 percent hard contact rate.

Odubel Herrera, PHI vs. MIL ($4,100): Herrera continues to enjoy a breakout season, and a significant part of that success has come against right-handed pitching. He's managed a .401 wOBA and 32.5 percent hard contact rate against righties, along with all five of his homers on the season. Brewers starter Wily Peralta has surrendered a .376 wOBA to left-handed hitters, along with a 34.4 percent hard contact rate.

Robbie Grossman, MIN vs. TB ($2,600): Grossman somehow remains priced within striking distance of the minimum, despite slashing .327/.441/.571 this season. He's flashed plenty of upside as well, having tallied double-digit fantasy points in three of his last eight games. The switch hitter has also been outstanding against lefties, posting a .495 wOBA and .286 ISO this year. Meanwhile, opposing starter Drew Smyly has had plenty of trouble with the long ball, surrendering nine of his 12 homers on the season to right-handed bats.
