DraftKings MLB: Wednesday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

PITCHER

Danny Salazar, CLE at ATL ($12,200): I generally don't like recommending players over $12,000, but the quality of the matchup and lack of mid-range values leave me no choice. The Braves are legendary for their offensive woes in DFS circles, as they are last in the league with a .280 wOBA. They also carry the third-lowest fly-ball rate, which could allow Salazar to use his ground ball tendencies to his advantage.

Jake Peavy, SF at OAK ($6,600): Peavy has seemingly risen from the ashes after a tumultuous start to the season, logging a 2.63 ERA over four games in June (24 innings). The A's are not only a bottom-5 team against right-handers, but also rank as the fifth-worst team in the league against the cutter, a pitch Peavy turns to more than 29 percent of time.

CATCHER

Brian McCann, NYY vs. TEX ($4,100): The Rangers have three members of their starting rotation on the disabled list, meaning DFS players can look to Texas for a reliable stack target more often than not. The wheel lands on Nick Martinez, who has walked more batters than he has struck out in 13 innings this season, and holds a career 5.19 xFIP over 278.1 frames.

FIRST BASE

Brandon Moss, STL vs. KC {$4,700): Moss will always be a solid selection when facing a heavy ground ball pitcher like Edinson Volquez, as his 50.4 percent fly ball rate is the highest mark in the league among batters with at least 200 plate appearances. Those who prefer more traditional statistics will note that Moss has tallied a .688 slugging percentage against right-handed pitchers this season.

SECOND BASE

Sean Rodriguez, PIT at SEA ($3,100): It was only a matter of time before Rodriguez cooled down, but he is still getting fat off left-handers, having notched a .382 wOBA over 44 at-bats. Wade Miley will make his return to the mound after missing more than two weeks with a shoulder injury, and he should bring his mediocre strikeout rate and home run issues back to the squad with him.

THIRD BASE

Kyle Seager, SEA vs. PIT ($3,800): Seager's horrid numbers against lefties have drawn attention away from the fact that he has been an elite bat against his opposite hand in 2016, having put together a .304/.393/.576 batting line with a .272 ISO in 184 at-bats. He also holds the 15th-highest fly ball rate in the league and should be able to get some nice swings off Jameson Taillon and his 52 percent ground ball rate.

SHORTSTOP

Danny Espinosa, WAS vs. NYM ($3,800):Logan Verrett has pitched fairly well out of the bullpen while with the Mets this season, but he has been blasted as a starter, posting a 5.79 ERA over 18.2 innings. Verrett has shown mediocre strikeout and walk numbers with the big club overall, while also allowing too many home runs. Espinosa has been setting the world on fire this month, notching a 1.026 OPS in 23 games.

OUTFIELD

Lonnie Chisenhall, CLE at ATL ($3,800):Joel De La Cruz is a career minor leaguer who has logged a 4.68 ERA at Triple-A Gwinnett while striking out just 44 batters in 57.2 innings this season. Meanwhile, Chisenhall has come on strong in the power department after a lackluster start, as he holds a .221 ISO over 77 at-bats this month.

Robbie Grossman, MIN at CWS ($3,600): You know it has been a rough month for James Shields when three runs in five innings and more walks than strikeouts is considered an improved outing. Shields may not have completely come apart against the Red Sox, but he is certainly still vulnerable enough for us to make a bargain selection in Grossman, who holds a .394 OBP and a .184 ISO against right-handed pitching.

Bryce Harper, WAS vs. NYM ($4,300): Perhaps it was premature to put Harper on equal footing with Mike Trout, but he is still well worth the price of admission against a pitcher like Verrett, as he enters Wednesday with a .921 OPS and .235 ISO against righties in 170 at-bats.

Other options: Tyler Naquin, CLE at ATL ($3,900); Andrew McCutchen, PIT at SEA ($3,900); Jacoby Ellsbury, NYY vs. TEX ($4,200)
