DraftKings MLB: Wednesday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

PITCHER

Johnny Cueto, SF vs. COL ($11,800): The Rockies were the worst team in the league away from their home ballpark in 2015, and while they started out hot this season, it's worth remembering that their first series on the road came at the hitter-friendly confines of Chase Field. A larger sample finds the Rockies among the bottom-six teams on the road according to wOBA, while also holding a strikeout rate of nearly 24 percent.

Marcus Stroman, TOR vs. KC ($6,400): Stroman will look to continue his positive start to July against the Royals, the 11th-worst team in the league against righties this season. Kansas City may struggle with Stroman's extreme ground ball tendencies, as they have kept a bottom-10 fly ball rate through 83 games.

CATCHER

Evan Gattis, HOU vs. SEA ($3,000): Poor overall numbers have kept Gattis' price depressed, which gives us an opportunity to take advantage of his .253 ISO against lefties over 79 at-bats. Wade LeBlanc has benefitted from good fortune in his first two starts, as a strand rate of nearly 91 percent and a .156 BABIP have resulted in a 4.15 xFIP.

FIRST BASE

Dae-Ho Lee, SEA at HOU ($3,700): Lee began the season as part of a platoon with Adam Lind, but he has assumed more of an everyday role thanks to his consistent performance. Lee holds an ISO of over .200 against both sides of the platoon, which should come in handy against Mike Fiers, who has a 4.85 xFIP against right-handed hitters while allowing eight homers in just 48.1 innings.

SECOND BASE

Yangervis Solarte, SD at ARI ($3,600): The big bats in the Padres' lineup are right-handed, but I need to highlight at least one lefty against Shelby Miller, as he has walked more left-handed hitters than he has struck out and allowed a HR/9 rate of better than 1.8 over 34.2 innings. Though he does his best work from the right-handed batters box, Solarte still has notched a .171 ISO and a .345 wOBA over 111 at-bats against righties.

THIRD BASE

Evan Longoria, TB vs. LAA ($3,800): How rough was Jered Weaver's June? He threw a complete game shutout against the A's and still ended the month with a 5.70 ERA. Longoria and the Rays strike out quite a bit against right-handed pitching, but they shouldn't have to worry about that against Weaver, as he has K'ed just 13 percent of the batters he has faced this season.

SHORTSTOP

Didi Gregorius, NYY at CWS ($4,000): I am a persistent (or stubborn) person, so I will recommend Gregorius again despite a goose egg Monday. This time, we will be looking to exploit Miguel Gonzalez's heavy slider usage, as Gregorius is the best hitter in the league against the pitch this season according to runs above average.

OUTFIELD

Mike Trout, LAA at TB ($5,400): The pitch value gods have been generous in the late slate, giving us two players who lead the league against secondary offerings the opponent throws at least 22 percent of the time. This matchup will see Trout put his nearly 12 runs above average versus the curveball against lefty Drew Smyly.

Michael Saunders, TOR vs. KC ($3,800):Ian Kennedy was able to keep his home run numbers down to begin the season, but the long balls have really been a problem of late, contributing to an ERA of 5.83 in June. As an extreme fly-ball pitcher at the Rogers Centre, Kennedy will look to escape the fate of Chris Young, who allowed four home runs in just 2.1 innings Tuesday.

Matt Holliday, STL vs. PIT ($4,200): Holliday will have the opportunity to make plenty of meaningful contact against opposing starter Jeff Locke, as he has struck out just 12 percent of batters faced this season, and has allowed 10 home runs to righties in 68 innings.

Other options: Melky Cabrera, CWS vs. NYY ($3,300); Carlos Beltran, NYY at CWS ($4,800); Corey Dickerson, TB vs. LAA ($3,500)
