DraftKings MLB: Saturday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

PITCHER

Max Scherzer, WAS vs. PHI ($14,400): Scherzer is priced through the roof but draws what is likely the best matchup on the slate. The Phillies have generated a paltry .295 wOBA against right-handed pitching, along with a 22.4 percent strikeout rate. Then there's the matter of Scherzer's track record against Philadelphia this season, which consists of a 3-0 record and an average of 29.1 fantasy points per game over four starts. One of those appearances came just two starts ago, when Scherzer mowed down this same squad for 37.6 fantasy points on the strength of 11 strikeouts over eight innings.

Jon Gray, COL at SDP ($10,600): Gray gets a considerable reprieve from Coors Field in the form of spacious Petco Park, while also drawing a squad even more inept than the Phillies against right-handed pitching. They Padres struck out at a whopping 25.1 percent rate against righties while posting a majors-worst .290 wOBA. Gray has clearly been a better pitcher on the road as well, with a solid 9.51 K/9 and 0.89 HR/9 over 71 frames away from home. He's shown an upside of close to 30 fantasy points on multiple occasions, while the Padres sport the fifth-lowest wOBA at home (.304) this season.

CATCHER

Salvador Perez, KC at CWS ($4,400) : Perez has been sidelined by a wrist injury but is expected to be in the lineup Saturday against beleaguered White Sox starter James Shields. The veteran righty has a whopping 17 losses on the season and has been battered by hitters from both sides of the plate. Perez could be in prime position to capitalize, considering Shields has surrendered a .407 wOBA, 2.62 HR/9 and 40.4 percent hard contact rate to righty bats. Meanwhile, Perez has a 36.3 percent hard contact rate against righties on the road, while also having blasted 10 homers against them.

FIRST BASE

Mike Napoli, CLE at MIN ($4,000): Napoli is one of the most potent righty bats to deploy against Twins southpaw Hector Santiago, who's given up an unsightly 22 homers, 5.31 xFIP and 37.4 percent hard contact rate to right-handed hitters. The veteran slugger counters with a .380 wOBA, .220 ISO and robust 46.8 percent hard contact rate against lefties, along with two homers in the last four games.

SECOND BASE

Daniel Murphy, WAS vs. PHI ($5,100) : The scorching-hot Brian Dozier ($5,600) also makes for a great play against Indians starter Mike Clevinger, but Murphy is $500 cheaper against an equally poor righty in Jerad Eickhoff. Murphy has a .416 wOBA, 19 homers, .262 ISO and 40.4 percent hard contact rate against right-handed pitching this season, and he also has an equally impressive .402 wOBA at home. Meanwhile, Eickhoff has given up a .363 wOBA and 5.13 xFIP to lefty bats on the road. Murphy has also been on one of his many hot streaks recently, with a six-game hitting streak and three double-digit fantasy point outings over that span.

THIRD BASE

Jung Ho Kang, PIT vs. CIN ($4,800): Kang has three homers over his last three games and double-digit fantasy points in seven of his last 10. He's been an absolute terror against right-handed pitching at home, where he's tallied a massive .440 wOBA, .330 ISO, 181 wRC+, 34.8 percent HR/FB rate and 48 percent hard contact rate. That makes Reds rookie starter Robert Stephenson a tantalizing target, considering he's yielded a .377 wOBA and 50 percent hard contact rate to righty bats and will be making the first road start of his career. Kang's stellar .386 wOBA at PNC Park should also serve him well whenever Stephenson gives way to one of the worst bullpens in the majors.

SHORTSTOP

Brandon Crawford, SF at ARI ($4,400): D-backs starter Archie Bradley has been solid over his last two starts in particular, but he still surrenders a .396 wOBA to lefty hitters that rises to .408 when facing them at Chase Field. The rest of his body of work in his hitter-friendly home park against left-handed bats includes a 2.49 HR/9, 4.86 xFIP, 31.6 HR/FB and 38.9 percent hard contact rate, while Crawford has a .343 wOBA and 34.8 percent hard contact rate against right-handed pitching on the road.

OUTFIELD

Stephen Piscotty, STL vs. MIL ($3,800): Opposing starter Chase Anderson surrenders a. 395 wOBA to right-handed hitters, including a .403 wOBA when facing them away from Miller Park, along with a 42.9 percent hard contact rate and 2.45 HR/9. Piscotty's metrics are more impressive against lefties, but he has blasted 12 homers off right-handed pitching and sports a .364 wOBA at home, along with a 33.1 percent hard contact rate against righties.

Randal Grichuk, STL. vs. MIL ($4,800): Grichuk has been excellent at home at this season, with a .390 wOBA, .307 ISO and 42.1 percent hard contact rate. He's also blasted righties to the tune of a .335 wOBA and .268 ISO, and owns a 28.1 percent HR/FB rate and 45.7 percent hard contact rate against that handedness at Busch Stadium. Given Anderson's considerable problems with right-handed hitters, Grichuk figures to have a solid chance to build on the .357 batting average, .477 wOBA and three homers he's tallied over his last seven games.

Yoenis Cespedes, NYM at ATL ($4,400): Cespedes makes for a powerful bat to deploy against Braves rookie starter John Gant, who's been tagged by righty hitters for a .360 wOBA, along with a .423 wOBA overall at home. He also yields a 41.7 percent hard contact rate to righty bats at Turner Field, while Cespedes has a .365 wOBA and .260 IS0 against right-handed pitching, along with 22 of his 28 homers on the season.
