FanDuel MLB: Monday Value Plays

FanDuel MLB: Monday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

Today note that the main slate is scheduled for 7:05 EST and features a nice 10-game selection with five games starting at 7:05 EST and only one starting at 10:15 EST. There are five different GPPs tonight ($4, $9, $9.99, $44 and $555) that all have prize pools of $100,000 or more.

For those interested, we've started an MLB DFS Slack channel for paid RotoWire subscribers. (There is a season-long one as well.) To join those channels, e-mail support@rotowire.com.

PITCHER

J.A. Happ, TOR at BAL ($7,300): Happ gets the Orioles tonight, a team that leads all of baseball with a 28.2 percent strikeout rate. He is makng his third start and has scored 23 and 37 points in his first two outings. Last season Happ had a 3.06 ERA in three starts against the Orioles, striking out 14 over 17 innings.

Also consider: Max Scherzer, WAS vs ATL ($11,100)

GPP Fade: Garrett Richards, LAA at TEX ($8,300): Arlington hasn't quite heated up yet but still plays as one of the better hitters' parks in baseball. The Rangers have a bunch of good bats in their lineup and this will likely be one of the few games with a high over/under for tonight's slate.

Cheap GPP Consideration: Jon Gray, COL vs SD ($7,700): Gray has had better home than away splits the last two seasons, finishing last year with a 3.13 ERA in Coors. As a team, the Padres are striking out at a 24.9 percent clip (ninth worst in baseball) and have a team OPS of .657 (eighth worst in baseball).

CATCHER/FIRST BASE

Albert Pujols, LAA at TEX ($2,700): This is one of the cheaper prices for Pujols, who comes into this game with a five-game hitting streak and is 7-for-20 over his last five games with two walks as well. Doug Fister has had an ERA north of 4.00 the last three seasons and allowed a wOBA above .340 in 2015 and 2016. Expect Pujols to be in his usual cleanup spot tonight, a nice play to chalk up the RBI against the Rangers.

SECOND BASE

Scooter Gennett, CIN at PHI ($2,800): Gennett has also found himself hitting in the cleanup spot, and hitting behind Joey Votto is always a good place to be. Gennett is coming off a breakout season where he hit 27 home runs while batting .295 and drove in 97 runs as well. Ben Lively gave up a .370 wOBA to left-handed hitters in Philadelphia last season, putting Gennett in an ideal matchup tonight.

THIRD BASE

Yangervis Solarte, TOR at BAL ($3,200): Solarte has moved into the cleanup spot for his new team and has shown good patience at the plate with eight walks over his last five games. He has scored at least 15.2 fantasy points in four of his eight games with the Jays and has a decent matchup against Dylan Bundy tonight in Baltimore. Last season Bundy gave up a .325 wOBA at home to left-handed hitters, while Solarte had a .335 wOBA against right-handed pitching.

SHORTSTOP

Scott Kingery, PHI vs CIN ($3,000): Kingery should be able to find his way into the lineup tonight given his versatility, and if so he'll have the righty-vs-lefty matchup working in his favor. Kingery has the good speed and power combo DFS owners love, hitting 26 home runs and stealing 29 bases in the minors last season. Cody Reed has struggled mightily with the Reds, posting a 1.80 WHIP in 2016 and a 1.70 WHIP last season showing he might not be ready for the big leagues.

OUTFIELD

A.J. Pollock, ARI at SF ($3,800): Many will turn away from this matchup given it's in San Francisco, a good pitcher's park. Pollock has reached base safely in every game this season and is hitting a robust .343. He has a career .360 wOBA against southpaws and will face one tonight in Derek Holland. Holland struggled mightily last season against right-handed hitters, giving up a .408 wOBA to that handedness.

Jay Bruce NYM at MIA ($3,200): Bruce has gotten off to a hot start, hitting doubles in each of his last three games and reaching base safely in every game this season. In a limited sample this season Jose Urena has given up a .445 wOBA to left-handed hitters, and he gave up a .339 mark to them last season in Marlins Park.

UTILITY

Ian Desmond, COL vs SD ($3,900): Many will flock to Nolan Arenado tonight, and rightfully so given he's in Coors Field up against a left-handed pitcher in Clayton Richard. However, Desmond has a career .335 wOBA against left-handed pitchers and also has the advantage of hitting at home tonight. He's typically in the cleanup spot against lefties and should have ample RBI opportunity with the lineup in front of him.
