Lakers Defeat Grizzlies, 117-105
The Los Angeles Lakers defeated the visiting Memphis Grizzlies, 117-105, at Staples Center on Friday.

Los Angeles was able to win this game in wire-to-wire fashion, thanks to a 28-22 first quarter and a 32-19 second quarter. Memphis then responded with a 36-24 third quarter but never even had a shot attempt to tie the game in the second half. Rim protection was the difference for the Lakers, winning the defensive rebounding battle, 37-34, while out-blocking the Grizzlies, 14-1. In addition, Los Angeles out-assisted Memphis, 25-22, while forcing 16 turnovers from the Grizzlies.

The Grizzlies (28-28) were led by Ja Morant and his 17 points and three assists. He was actually the only starter in double figures, with Jonas Valanciunas amassing eight points, 11 rebounds and two steals. Josh Jackson led the bench with 20 points and three rebounds. Gorgui Dieng and Brandon Clarke each had double-doubles off the bench as well.

The Lakers (42-12) were led by LeBron James, who tallied 32 points, three rebounds, seven assists and two blocks. Anthony Davis collected 28 points, 13 rebounds, four assists and seven blocks. Avery Bradley totaled 14 points, five rebounds and three steals. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope led the bench with 12 points and five rebounds.

On deck for Los Angeles is a home matchup versus the Boston Celtics on Sunday. As for Memphis, they return to action on Monday when they play the other Los Angeles team at Staples Center.
