DraftKings NHL: Thursday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings NHL series.

GOALIE

Pekka Rinne, NSH at ARI ($7,900): Despite a tough loss against the Sharks they're still three points ahead of everyone else in the conference, and Darcy Kuemper will likely get his sixth straight start even though he allowed five goals on 17 shots against the Wings in his most recent game. On the other hand, Rinne has allowed just three goals in his past four games and went 2-0 with 59 saves against the Coyotes last season.

CENTER

Dylan Larkin, DET at OTT ($6,600): The future Wings captain is on a three-game point streak and averaging a point per game, and quite undervalued for someone putting together an all-star campaign. Larkin is also averaging 21 minutes per game, 14th in the NHL and first on the Wings, three more minutes than the next highest average. The Senators have allowed 76 goals and on pace to be the worst ever in the cap era.

Mathew Barzal, NYI vs. NYR ($5,500): Barzal's career numbers against the Rangers, small sample size be damned: three goals and 10 points on eight shots and a plus-8 rating in four games. Barzal's speed is a problem for any team, but it's an even bigger problem for a Rangers defense that's slow and has turned over the puck 207 times, sixth-most in the league.

WING

Andreas Athanasiou, DET at OTT ($6,900): AA will be shooting for his fourth straight two-point game, terrorizing his opponents with deadly speed since his return. The Sens are the league's worst team on defense (no depth) and in net (no quality), and after a slow star the Wings are one of the league's hottest teams. AA doesn't get a lot of ice time but he's a very opportunistic scorer.

Zach Parise, MIN vs. VAN ($6,300): The Canucks were shortchanged by a few calls on Long Island but they definitely look like a tired bunch. The remain without top defenseman Alex Edler and Jacob Markstrom has looked worse and worse with each start; Minnesota will be his sixth straight start on the road and 10th straight overall. Parise has two goals, 11 shots and five blocked shots in his past four games.

Jakub Voracek, PHI vs. NJ ($5,400): The Devils' win against the Pens was great and everything, but overall they've won just two games in November and have a potential goalie conundrum on their hands. It shouldn't change anything for Voracek, who's scored five points in his past six games, and the Flyers offense in general isn't too shabby. Voracek had three points in a 5-2 win against the Devils in October.

DEFENSE

Thomas Chabot, OTT vs. DET ($6,300): He's an electrifying offensive talent and given the opportunities he's getting in Ottawa, he might be a high-floor, high-ceiling fantasy stud all season. Offense has always been a strong suit and, because the Sens are so bad, he's forced to block a lot of shots, too. He has 22 points in 18 games and averaging over 23 minutes this season. Which Karlsson did they trade again?

Jeff Petry, MON at CGY ($5,200): I'm unconvinced Mike Reilly will stay, or even should be, on the top power play unit, so even though Petry is on the second unit I like his upside a lot more. He has four assists in his past four games and remains the team's best all-round defenseman. The Flames will likely start Mike Smith, which must be a delight even for league's second-worst power play.
