FanDuel NHL: Sunday Value Plays

FanDuel NHL: Sunday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel NHL series.

The holiday weekend is almost over. Hey, at least we have four NHL games Sunday before things go back to normal. The first game is at 3:00 PM ET, so get your daily fantasy lineup in early. Here are my recommendations.

GOALIE

Cam Talbot, EDM at LOS ($7,700): Yes, Talbot has endured a bad season. However, there are a couple things going in his favor. First, the Kings are the only team playing the second leg of a back-to-back Sunday. Second, Los Angeles is last in goals scored per game, as they've only managed to score just over two goals per contest. At this price, it's worth taking a gamble on Talbot. This is about as good of a matchup as you are going to find.

CENTER

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, EDM at LOS ($5,800): Nugent-Hopkins is off to a great start, with 21 points in 22 games. He's also put 65 shots on net, and his 9.5 shooting percentage is actually lower than his career average. Since the Kings will be on their second night of a back-to-back, they will likely be starting Peter Budaj in net, who is effectively their fourth-string goalie at this point.

Nico Hischier, NJD at TAM ($5,700): Hischier has started 60.8 percent of his shifts in the offensive zone, highest on the Devils. He's also averaged 3:44 per game on the power play, a major uptick over his rookie season. Andrei Vasilevskiy is injured, so Louis Domingue will likely be in net for the Lightning and comes in with a 3.31 GAA and .901 save percentage this season.

WING

Kyle Palmieri, NJD at TAM ($6,500): Last year, Palmieri notched 44 points in 62 games, and he's actually scoring at an even better pace this season with 21 points in 21 contests – including nine on the power play. And as was just noted, Louis Domingue has struggled with a 3.31 GAA and .901 save percentage.

Yanni Gourde, TAM vs. NJD ($6,000): Gourde has also tallied 21 points this season, after notching 25 goals as a rookie. Meanwhile, the Devils sport a 3.19 GAA as a team, and in his last 10 games Keith Kinkaid has posted a 3.11 GAA and .906 save percentage. That bodes well for the 26-year-old winger.

Craig Smith, NAS vs. ANA ($5,200): Smith has started a whopping 70.0 percent of his shifts in the offensive zone, second highest on the Predators. He's also put 72 shots on net, and shooting like that will pay off once his 6.9 shooting percentage regresses toward the mean. The Ducks own a solid 2.79 GAA, but they've allowed a league second-highest 35.7 shots on goal per game. If nothing else, Smith should get pucks on net.

DEFENSE

Drew Doughty, LOS vs. EDM ($5,300): Yes, I recommended Talbot in net, but not because of his stellar goaltending. I don't necessarily expect a shutout, so there is potential for somebody on the Kings, like Doughty, to have a good game. After lighting the lamp Saturday, Doughty has two goals on the season but on 42 shots, so his shooting percentage will improve. Beyond that, he enters with a three-game point streak.

Oscar Klefbom, EDM at LOS ($4,800): Klefbom has eight points, all assists, but he's put 67 shots on net in 22 games. He's going to score eventually. The Swede has also averaged 3:48 per game with the extra man. The Kings, who are playing their second game in as many nights, own the 27th-ranked penalty kill.
