This article is part of our FanDuel NHL series.
FanDuel's main event contests consist of the three evening games and don't include the Heritage Classic contest between Edmonton and Winnipeg, which will be played outdoors. Here are a handful of values and low-priced fliers to consider when filling out your lineups.
GOALIE
John Gibson, ANA vs. VAN ($8,400): The Canucks are on the wrong end of back-to-back road games and have averaged just 2.4 goals per game thus far, which ranks 25th in the league. Gibson posted a .930 save percentage at home last year, and this is the home opener for the Ducks. He's also turned away 46 of 50 shots over his latest two outings.
CENTER
John Tavares, NYI vs. MIN ($7,500): The most talented player available Sunday comes at a discount. Tavares has been better the past three games with a goal, an assist and 11 shots on net, but he still hasn't posted a multi-point game this year. Considering he returned 350 points over 349 games through the previous five seasons, the offense is coming, and Minnesota is on the tail end of a back-to-back set.
Mika Zibanejad, NRY vs. ARI ($6,000): It's been a great start for Zibanejad, and he lands in a cushy matchup with Arizona allowing 4.5 goals per game this year. Zibanejad has two goals, four assists and 18 shots on net and is averaging 3:06 of power-play time to start the season, and he's increased his point total in each of the past four years.
WING
Radim Vrbata, ARI at NYR ($4,500): The veteran has averaged 3:32 of power-play time to start the season and is a high-volume shooter with 13 tallies over four games. Vrbata also has a goal and two helpers and is just a year removed from a 31-goal, 63-point showing. This salary presents plenty of value considering his role.
Jimmy Vesey, NYR vs. ARI ($3,800): The rookie hit the scoresheet with two goals Saturday and has a favorable matchup with the Coyotes. As noted, Arizona is allowing 4.5 goals per game to start the campaign. Vesey's role alongside Derek Stepan and Rick Nash is also encouraging.
Nick Ritchie, ANA vs. VAN ($3,400): With a top-line role alongside Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry, Ritchie is worth a look as a low-priced flier Sunday. He also registered a season-high five shots on net last time out, and often an uptick in shot volume leads to a corresponding increase in production.
Anthony Beauvillier, NYI vs. MIN ($3,100): The ice time is discouraging, as Beauvillier is averaging just 9:07 per night, but he's scored three points through four games and sports a two-game point streak. The range of outcomes is significant, but Beauvillier's salary provides oodles of cap wiggle room to spend up elsewhere. It also wouldn't take much to return value.
DEFENSE
Cam Fowler, ANA vs. VAN ($4,500): Receiving a career-high 24:46 of ice time per night out of the gate, Fowler has two goals, two assists and 12 shots over five games. He's also averaging 4:39 of power-play time. This salary isn't so high that you shouldn't pounce on Fowler's expanded role and excellent start.
Shea Theodore, ANA vs. VAN ($3,500): After collecting two points over two games in the AHL, Theodore was recalled Saturday. His role and ice time are up in the air, but there is no doubting his talent. Theodore posted eight points over 19 games last year and should get some power-play time. Best of all, the price of admission is cheap.
